President Obama arrives at Dane County Regional Airport
All eyes were on the sky as Air Force One, a large Boeing 747 aircraft, carrying President Obama, Education Secretary Arne Duncan and national media landed at Dane County Regional Airport on Nov. 4. Airport staff worked with the Presidential security and advance teams for two weeks prior to the landing. President Obama was in Madison to deliver a speech on education at Wright Middle School.

Madison airfares continue downward
For the second quarter in a row, Dane County Regional Airport had the second largest decrease in airfares for the top 100 airports in the country as reported by the Federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Electronic check-in gains in popularity
A recent survey found that 80 percent of the world's leading airports plan to make passenger self-service the primary channel for check-in. (SITA Airport IT Trends survey, co-sponsored by the Airports Council International and Airline Business.) Airlines at Dane County Regional Airport have electronic check-in.
It found 63 percent of airports already had check-in kiosks which will further increase to 90 percent by 2012. Fifty-two percent of airports believed "electronic documents" would have the most significant impact at airports in the near future, with the adoption of bar-coded boarding passes sent directly to mobile phones.

Flying on Friday the 13th? It's cheaper to fly on 'unlucky' days, says Hugo Martin in his "Travel Briefcase" column in the LA Times (10/31/09). If you want to save money on a flight and aren't superstitious, consider flying on Friday the 13th or Sept. 11. An analysis by Kayak.com, a travel search engine, found that a drop in airline demand on those days has led to prices that are 14 percent lower than the average flight. The next Friday the 13th is this Friday, Nov. 13. |
