DeltaDelta rebrands Northwest at DCRA

Delta Check InA long and colorful history and partnership with Northwest Airlines transitioned to a new, expanded partnership with Delta Airlines July 14 when Delta completed the rebranding of Northwest at Dane County Regional airport. Delta signage replaces the Northwest logo at the ticket agent desk (see photo). If you hold a Northwest Airlines ticket, check in at the Delta Airlines desk. For more information on how the transition affects Northwest passengers and frequent flyers, see Delta's FAQ sheet.  Northwest's first flight to Madison was in 1927 when Northwest's first ticketed passenger flew from Minneapolis to Chicago via Madison.

Delta adds $5 surcharge to checked bags

Delta Airlines has added a $5 surcharge to the first two bags checked at the airport ticket agent desk or kiosk. There is no surcharge for bags prepaid during online check-in at delta.com. For three or more bags an excess baggage fee applies. The surcharge applies on tickets purchased on or after July 16, 2009, for travel on or after August 4, 2009. The surcharge is on top of the $15 first bag fee and $25 second bag fee.

Continental Airlines also is charging a similar $5 baggage fee surcharge on the first and second bags checked at the airport, effective for tickets purchased on or after July 21, 2009 for travel on or after August 19, 2009. United and US Airways already charge this fee, leaving American Airlines the last legacy carrier yet to add the surcharge.
AirlinesAirlines raise rates nationwide

American Airlines increased prices on domestic fares $10 to $20 round-trip on a significant number of US routes in late June. All five legacy airlines shortly thereafter did the same.  While fares are still low, it is the second round of hikes in the last few weeks and may signal that fares may not dip lower.  You might think about buying tickets for future travel now.

TSATSA asks passengers to place shoes directly on X-ray belt

X-ray of shoesIn order to screen shoes more effectively, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is now asking passengers to place shoes directly on the belt of the X-ray machine. Or, you can place shoes separately in a bin, without other items. The bin option is helpful for lighter shoes and women's shoes that may not be heavy enought to push through the X-ray belt on their own. Shoes remain a security concern because items may be hidden in them. Passengers with disabilities, medical conditions or a prosthetic device that prevents them from removing their shoes should notify the security officer for alternative screening. The above image is a declassified photo of simulated explosives in a pair of shoes.
TerminalTerminal roadway under construction

TerminalRoad20090709The roadway in front of the airport terminal is under construction this summer. The road is open to drop off and pick up passengers, but please watch for lane change signage. We appreciate your patience as we further improve the Dane County Regional Airport!
LaBreaMmmm...New LaBrea sandwiches are a mouth-watering meal

SandwicheThe new sandwiches on La Brea bread are proving popular for "grab and go" food to take on the plane or to enjoy at the airport.  You'll find them at Ancora Coffee Roasters, past security, or at Cafe Ritazza near the meeters & greeters lounge on the first floor. The selection, which varies daily, includes:

Turkey and swiss on sourdough
Beef and cheddar on a rustique roll
American on whole wheat
Honey ham and swiss on whole wheat
Tuna salad on sourdough
Chicken salad on sourdough
Stimulus Stimulus dollars fund taxiway project

Taxiway B, on the east side of the airfield is being extended by 3,000 feet to create a full-length parallel taxiway that will allow aircraft and ground service vehicles to maneuver without crossing an active runway mid-field. For this safety improvement project,  Governor Jim Doyle and County Executive Kathleen Falk announced that DCRA is receiving $4 million in federal stimulus funds. This is the largest amount of federal stimuls funds received by any airport in Wisconsin. With 50 workers on the site, the project is scheduled to be completed by year-end.
