"It was less to fly to Madrid from Madison than from Chicago"
A passenger took the time to let us know that he priced airline tickets for his daughter to travel to Spain this summer--and the fare from Madison was $150 less than leaving from Chicago O'Hare. While that may not always be the case...it just goes to show that it pays to price tickets from Dane County Regional Airport, even on international flights. |
Exit plaza earns LEED silver for green building
The new exit plaza and parking administration building at the Dane County Regional Airport has received LEED® Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. "This fulfills a vision we had from the very beginning to go green in all our new airport facilities," said County Executive Kathleen Falk. The 2,000 square foot exit plaza has six gates and a parking administration office. It adjoins a new, 3-story parking ramp which adds 1,200 more close-in ramp parking spaces and is connected to the existing 4-story ramp. No county tax dollars, only airport revenues were used for construction.
Easy to read signs for hourly, ramp and surface lot parking have been installed on the entrance plaza to the parking garage.
The old entry plaza has been disassembled and recycled and new roadway paving and sidewalks will be installed. Thanks for your patience as we complete these improvements |
What's the construction project?
It's hard to miss the construction activity taking place on the right hand side of International Lane as you near the airport terminal. The airport is constructing underground storage tanks to catch and process runoff that contains the residue of glycol used by the airlines to de-ice their aircraft in the winter. It improves on the current system that uses an open glycol stormwater retention pond. A parking lot is planned for over the top of the tanks, which have a combined capacity of approximately 1 million gallons.

New passport requirements
As of June 1, 2009, new regulations for US citizens re-entering the country from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda are in effect. Passengers are required to have a US passport, passport card or other travel documents approved by the Department of Homeland Security when entering by land or sea, in addition to air. BART fare rises on trip from airport to downtown San Francisco
You can find bargains on air fares to San Francisco from Dane County Regional Airport right now. But, starting in July, a trip on the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system between San Francisco International Airport and downtown San Francisco will go from $4.35 to $8.10 due to a near tripling of the surcharge from $1.50 to $4. However, that's still a bargain compared to a $35 cab ride or a $20 shuttle van ride. |

Guggenheim celebrates Frank Lloyd Wright
From May 15-August 23, 2009, New York's Guggenheim Museum
celebrates
50 years of its spiral-shaped building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, one of America's greatest architects who had Wisconsin roots.
Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within Outward, brings together 64 projects, including privately commissioned residences, civic and government buildings, religious and performance spaces, as well as unrealized urban mega-structures. Presented on the spiral ramps of Wright's museum through a range of mediums-including more than 200 original Frank Lloyd Wright drawings, many of which are on view to the public for the first time, the exhibit reveals the architect's continuing relevance to contemporary design. Flights to New York from Dane County Regional Airport include non-stops to LaGuardia on Northwest (Delta) and Newark on Continental. |

Cell phone lot makes passenger pick-up easy
The airport's Cell Phone Lot, marked by a brown and white sign on International Lane nearing the airport, is an area where motorists can wait in their cars for their arriving passenger. Once the arriving passenger reaches curbside with luggage in hand, a quick phone call alerts the driver that the passenger is ready to be picked up. The lot is about a minute's drive from the terminal.
