Headline1 Low Fares Now Available

AirfareWatchdogheadIn response to lower demand, the airlines are offering unusually good fares on air travel--and extending them longer into the summer. Combined with the ease of travel from Dane County Regional Airport, this is a great time to travel from Madison. But remember, not all seats on a flight are discounted, so move quickly to obtain the best fares. Check on-line or call your travel agent. We've seen some good round-trip fares to places like Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Tampa, Charleston and even Honolulu appearing on the airport website's Airfare Watchdog.com widget lately. Check it out.

Jeffrey Skiles Visits DCRA

First officer Jeffrey Skiles, the co-pilot aboard US Airways flight 1549 that made a splash landing in the Hudson River on Jan. 15, visited staff at the Dane County Regional Airport in March. In this photo Skiles (center) joins Airport Director Brad Livingston (left) and Deputy Director Dave Jensen.  Skiles and his wife, Barb, live in Oregon, just outside Madison. Headline3Airport Receives $4 Million Funding

Gov. Doyle presents check to Co. Exec. FalkGovernor Jim Doyle announced on March 30 a $4 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) award to extend Taxiway B at Dane County Regional Airport. Here he presents the ceremonial check to Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk.

The construction will build a full-length parallel taxiway that will allow aircraft and ground service vehicles to maneuver without blocking an active runway. This improvement will reduce the risk of collision, and allow planes to take-off and land more quickly. The funding will also allow ground controllers to more safely and efficiently direct aircraft on the ground. The project is expected to bid in May 2009 and begin construction in June. Most of the work will be completed this summer, and the project should be finished by December
Headline4Obama Eases Family Travel to Cuba

On April 13, President Obama directed the Secretaries of State, Treasury and Commerce to take the necessary steps to lift all travel restrictions on family visits and remittances to Cuba. The administration will lift all restrictions on family visits to Cuba by:
  • Defining family members who may be visited to be persons within three degrees of family relationship (e.g., second cousins) and to allow individuals who share a common dwelling as a family with an authorized traveler to accompany them;
  • Removing limitations on the frequency of visits;
  • Removing limitations on the duration of a visit;
  • Authorizing expenditure amounts that are the same as non-family travel; and
  • Removing the 44-pound limitation on accompanied baggage.
The announcement does not affect the restrictions on travel to Cuba by other US citizens or the trade embargo. View the White House fact sheet on the changes.

Don't look for commercial airline service to Cuba anytime soon, however, as major airlines would need the government to negotiate a bilateral aviation agreement with Cuba before they could start regular scheduled service.
Headline5Sprecher Root Beer now available

SprechersLegendary Sprecher Root Beer, brewed in Milwaukee, is now available at all DCRA restaurants.  Its rich, creamy flavor comes from using pure Wisconsin honey direct from the combs, pure vanilla and a host of botanicals. It was featured March 1 on CBS Sunday Morning, and was rated tops in a New York Times review of 25 root beers.  Sprecher Cream Soda, Orange Dream, and Ginger Ale are also available
