ABILENE, Kan. - The highly acclaimed Salina Symphony will perform an outdoor D-Day commemorative concert at the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum on Saturday, June 2 at 8 p.m. Visitors are invited to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy the "Symphony at Sunset." There is no admission fee; however, donations are welcome.

"We hope that people from all across Kansas will take this opportunity to enjoy a wonderful cultural event on our grounds," said Karl Weissenbach, Director, Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. "The Salina Symphony is a renowned orchestra, and we are elated to have them perform here," he added.

Prior to the concert a "Meet and Greet" reception with Ken Hakoda, Music Director/Conductor, will be held in the Library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $20/person. For reservations, send a check to Eisenhower Presidential Library, P.O. Box 339, Abilene, KS 67410, Attn: Symphony Reception. Reservation deadline is Thursday, May 24.

Food vendors will be available for dinner, so plan to come early and picnic! The Blades will perform from 5:30-7:30 providing entertainment for folks who arrive early. The nine-piece band features great vocals, horns and keyboard while performing the sounds of the '60s through the '90s.

The first half of the concert will showcase popular classics, including "Symphonic Dances" from West Side Story, and will transition to a series of patriotic favorites as a tribute to Eisenhower and our veterans. The Symphony at Sunset program will be an annual event scheduled the first Saturday in June every year. This date was selected to commemorate D-Day and honor our veterans.
