ABILENE, Kan. - The Eisenhower Presidential Library is hosting a special evening to celebrate 50 years on May 1 in the Library Courtyard. The Library opened its doors on May 1, 1962. That date was specifically chosen by President Eisenhower because it would have been his mother's 100th birthday.

Everyone is invited to celebrate the Library's 50th Anniversary beginning with a social at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and a program. Ike's granddaughter, Mary Jean Eisenhower, will give remarks and cut the cake in honor of her great-grandmother's 150th birthday. A PowerPoint presentation featuring former and current staff will be shown during dinner.
The cost is $10 per person and reservations are required by April 27 by mailing a check payable to Eisenhower Library, P.O. Box 339, Abilene, Kan. 67410, attn: 50th Anniversary.
A special exhibit celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the dedication of the Eisenhower Presidential Library is on display in the Library gallery through March 31, 2013. The "Library's 50th Anniversary" exhibit features the Library planning, funding, groundbreaking, construction and dedication. Documents, photos and artifacts from the Archives are on exhibit for the first time. |
