Eisenhower Library Exhibit
 Celebrates 50th Anniversary

ABILENE, Kan. -  A special exhibit celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the dedication of the Eisenhower Presidential Library is on display in the Library gallery through March 31, 2013.

The "Library's 50th Anniversary" exhibit features the Library planning, funding, groundbreaking, construction and dedication. Documents, photos and artifacts from the Archives are on exhibit for the first time.

Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum staff have gleaned many items from the Library's Archives to design this original exhibit. Rare documents and artifacts will be rotated throughout the 14 months to showcase the variety of items in the Library's collection.

"This unprecedented display tells a never-before-told story of the Library," said Karl Weissenbach, Director, Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. "We encourage guests to visit the exhibit several times as it is likely that they will see different items on display each time," he added.

This exhibit provides a glimpse of what is stored in the Library Archives. The holdings include millions of historical records and papers, oral histories and transcripts, still photos, original motion picture film, hours of audio recordings and artifacts.

Visitors will learn the answer to the question "Just what does a research library do?"  The exhibit includes a replica of the "stacks" where documents are stored as well as a replica of a research table where researchers pour over historical papers.

Also included is a display about the proper preservation of documents. Learn what can happen if your own historic documents are not properly stored.

Exhibits such as this are only made possible through private donations to the Eisenhower Foundation. To support programs and exhibits, please contact the Eisenhower Foundation at 785.263.6700.
