Winter/2012
Director's Dialogue
Looking Back on 2011/Forward to 2012

On behalf of the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum staff, I wish all of you a healthy and prosperous New Year. We had a record-setting year in 2011 and we are looking forward to an even better year in 2012.

  • We hosted 800 researchers and overall attendance reached nearly 170,000. That is about 10,000 more than last year and the highest since the Eisenhower Centennial in 1990!
  • A conservative estimate for economic benefit to Abilene from our visitors is $12.7 million for FY 2011!
  • The award-winning Living History Garden float featuring the "Eisenhower boys" participated in three parades.
  • The Kansas Association of Broadcasters awarded 1st place to the Eisenhower commercials produced by KAKE-TV!
The success of 2011 would not have been possible without the support of the Eisenhower Foundation and commitment of many donors. Their financial support led to highly successful programming.

Your support is needed to continue the outstanding exhibits and programs planned for 2012. They are made possible through private donations to the Eisenhower Foundation. To learn how you can help, go to www.dwightdeisenhower.com/giving.html

Message from Don Sheppard, Scout Executive
Boy Scouts of America | Coronado Area Council

The Coronado Area Council, Boy Scouts of America whole- heartedly agrees with President Eisenhower and supports more than 1,500 volunteers to accomplish the mission of Scouting for more than 4,000 youth across the 32 counties of North Central and Northwest Kansas. group photo of BS patch wkshp9112010The Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum is a valued partner in our efforts to teach young people the ideals of participation citizenship so fundamental to Scouting and Eisenhower.
The Five Star Leadership program and Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge clinics that we conduct with the Library are tremendous opportunities for our Scouts, and we are grateful for the collaboration. Like Eisenhower, Scouting has a home in Abilene with the historical Brown Memorial Camp. We look forward to furthering our partnership to continue to benefit the youth of our communities.

If you are interested in learning more about the Council, visit www.coronadoscout.org or to find a local Scout unit go to www.BeAScout.org. Visit www.eisenhower.archives.gov to learn more about scouting activities at the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum.
