ABILENE, Kan. - The Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum and Boyhood Home, has broken its record for the number of researchers in a year. Breaking the old record by more than 80 researchers, 800 scholars conducted research in fiscal year 2011.
"We've been open for research over 45 years and yet our numbers continue to climb," states Director Karl Weissenbach. "This shows continuing scholarly interest in the history of the Eisenhower Administration."
Meredith Levine, a graduate student at Yale University, was the record-setting researcher. Levine is studying the domestic policy of the Eisenhower Administration. Staff presented her with an "I Like Ike" coffee mug, pen set, and a copy of Eisenhower's memoir, At Ease, to mark the occasion.
The library also broke its record for the number of public programs held in a single year with 87. The previous record, set last year, was 56.
Overall library, museum, and boyhood home attendance was nearly 170,000 this year, the largest attendance since the 1990 Eisenhower Centennial.
