Eisenhower: The White House Years

Author Presentation and Book Signing

ABILENE, Kan. -  The author of a recently published book will present a special Eisenhower Administration 50 year retrospective program on Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Visitors Center Auditorium.

newton book coverJim Newton's new book, "Eisenhower: The White House Years," was released Oct. 4, 2011. Newton is the editor-at-large of the Los Angeles Times, where he also serves as a columnist whose work appears weekly on the Op-Ed page. Newton's acclaimed biography of Chief Justice Earl Warren, "Justice for All: Earl Warren and the Nation He Made," was published in 2006.

Publishers Weekly called Newton's new book "clear, brisk, and insightful, a timely study of a master of consensus politics with lessons for today's polarized Washington." Book List described it as "a well-done presentation that helps correct enduring perceptions about an effective but misunderstood presidency." And Bob Woodward, the Washington Post's great investigative reporter and author, called it "a truly great book."

Newton visited the Eisenhower Presidential Library Archives many times as he researched this new book. Rare interviews with John Eisenhower and fresh insights gleaned from recently declassified documents are the basis for this gripping and timely narrative. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and an autograph session will follow the program. Refreshments will be provided by our partners the Arts Council of Dickinson County Literary Committee.

This program is part of the 50 year retrospective on the Eisenhower Administration in conjunction with the "Eisenhower: Agent of Change" temporary exhibit, on display through Jan. 29, 2012. To supplement the exhibit, many public programs, including a film series, are scheduled throughout the year. To see the event schedule, visit www.eisenhower.archives.gov or become a fan on Facebook.

These programs and exhibits are only made possible through private donations to the Eisenhower Foundation. Special thanks to the Hall Family Foundation, Emma Balsiger Foundation, Robert M. Beren Foundation, Inc., and Barton P. and Mary D. Cohen Charitable Trust for their generous support of the "Eisenhower: Agent of Change" exhibit.
