ABILENE, Kan. - A special program about Presidential Libraries will be held Thursday, June 30, at 7 p.m. in the Visitors Center of the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum.
Don Wilson, a native of Abilene, Kan., is the CEO of the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library Foundation and former Archivist of the United States. Wilson will present "Presidential Libraries: National Treasures or Modern Pyramids?" focusing on the history of public and private presidential libraries, as well as on what their future may hold.
"Members of the local community are pleased to welcome Don back to his hometown of Abilene for the evening. We are looking forward to this intriguing discussion," states Karl Weissenbach, director of the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum.
Dr. Wilson has held a variety of administrative positions in both state and federal historical institutions. He was Historian and Deputy Director of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library from 1969-1978, first Director of the Gerald Ford Presidential Library, and 7th Archivist of the United States a position he held from 1987-1993. From 1993-1999, he was the Executive Director of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation, establishing the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX.
