The San Diego County Farm Bureau is hosting their 2012 Farm Tour Day on June 16.  We caught up with two of the participating farmers for this month's Digital Conversation.

Alysha Stehly and Chris Broomell of Triple B Ranches and Vesper Vineyards are San Diego county natives who returned to their families' farms with the hope of preserving and sustaining their agricultural legacy.  Watch and be inspired by their efforts to maintain and reinvent a viable farming industry in San Diego.

2012 Farm Tour Day  

Saturday, June 16th

 

Join the San Diego County Farm Bureau for a tour of four local farms.  Choose from one of two loops (Oceanside East/Fallbrook or Valley Center) and take advantage of this great opportunity to enjoy the San Diego Sunshine and learn some of the ins and outs of this $5 billion dollar industry. Enjoy snacks and refreshments from local food trucks parked along the route.

American Farmland Trust Reception
Friday June 8th, 6 - 9 PM    

Come out to support The American Farmland Trust and their work in California. The Rancho La Jolla reception will be hosted by William and Michelle Lerach along with  Chef Isabel Cruz and will include an array of food from local farmers and purveyors.

Proceeds from your ticket will go to work educating communities about ways to protect their local farmland and push policy makers for legislation supporting local foods, farmers' markets and farmland protection across the country.      
Junior Livestock Auction at the San Diego County Fair
Saturday June 30th, beginning at 10 am    

Come support our youngest farmers through the Junior Livestock Auction. This auction provides us with the opportunity to support and engage the next generation of farmers. The 63rd annual auction will take place at the main auction ring (or by absentee bid) on Saturday, June 30th beginning at 10:00 a.m.     
Save The Date: Autumnal Equinox Dinner

Suzie's Farm is hosting their 2nd Annual Autumnal Equinox Dinner. Activities and attractions will include a 2 acre sunflower maze, a four-course meal from four of San Diego's best chefs, music and "secret garden rooms".  

 

A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to SFUSD so Keep an eye out for chef announcements and an email with the SFUSD member discount code for ticket purchase.

Keep an eye out for Food Day events in San Diego.  Slow Food URBAN San Diego Board Members are sitting down with community leaders to assist in planning San Diego's Food Day events. There are many exciting activities in store!
