Oatridge College is to take a major role in a new project involving two universities and five other colleges in Scotland, to improve the transfer of knowledge and skills to industry. Oatridge will be focusing on land based rural and tourism businesses. 2KT+ builds on a knowledge transfer (KT) partnership developed by Edinburgh Napier University and Queen Margaret University, which is being expanded to include Oatridge, Carnegie, Telford, Jewel and Esk, Stevenson and Elmwood Colleges.

Scottish raspberries and strawberries are worth waiting all year for (in my humble opinion) and there are still plenty available at the local farms and farm shops.
Try Pardovan Farm Shop or West Craigie Farm which also has pick-your-own fruit on offer if you have the time.
Raspberries and peaches are a classic combination. Click here for a recipe that brings them together in an impressive looking - and tasting - summer treat.

Welcome to the August issue of the LBA newsletter!
Linlithgow Business Association
AGM & Question Time
Wednesday 23rd September 2009
Taste Restaurant, High Street, Linlithgow
The Business Association AGM will be held at Taste Restaurant, High Street, Linlithgow, 23rd September 2009 starting at 6.45pm prompt.
All members are encouraged to attend and those wishing to take an active role in the Association are invited to contact our Secretary Anne Daly, in the first instance, on 01506 671138 or by e-mail.
The AGM will be followed at 7.30 by a "Question Time" session when an invited panel drawn from the Linlithgow community and beyond will answer members' questions.
We aim to improve on the highly successful and enjoyable event last year and invite members to submit their questions by email before Wednesday 16th September to Anne Daly at the above email address.
This proved a very popular event last year and we would ask everyone with burning issues to raise to put their questions in early to be sure of inclusion.
Finally, a reminder that the newsletter is a free opportunity to promote your business to other local businesses and we are always pleased to receive articles or members offers for inclusion (contact us by email or phone: 01506 510333 or mobile: 07767 713024) | |
EKJN architects' design for redevelopment of the derelict Victoria Hall received a vital boost this week when the Planning Committee voted in favour of the scheme. Thus the proposals have been granted planning approval in principle. The only bone of contention in the committee hearing was the inclusion of a smoking shelter at the back of the new building, which has not been approved and is to be deleted from the plans. Other than that it was 'thumbs up' all round. However, this is by no means the end of the story as far as the planning approval is concerned. With such a major development in a historic conservation area there is a chance that the Scottish Executive will 'call in' the planning approval for a second opinion. The Scottish Exec are allowed 28 days to think about it which means we need to keep our fingers crossed for a few more weeks yet!

WHY YOU NEED TO BE PART OF THE LBA |
|

Become part of the Linlithgow Business Association (the LBA) and have your interests at the top of the agenda. You're equally welcome whether you are in the High Street, Mill Road Industrial Estate, the Stockbridge Retail Park or one of the many professional businesses throughout the town.
Currently the LBA has some 80 members, yet the number of businesses in Linlithgow registered with the West Lothian Council is around 400.
The LBA would like to speak for ALL businesses in the community but as you can see we can only legitimately speak for 20% of you.
SHOUD YOU CARE? WE THINK YOU SHOULD

Following extensive deliberations on the merits of launching a Linlithgow BIDS project, a letter setting out the current LBA position was submitted to Cllr Martin Day, Chair of the Local Area Committee of West Lothian Council, on 7th August.
Our conclusion on the basis of existing data was that a BIDS would not be viable for Linlithgow at this time. We will maintain a watching brief and would welcome inputs, views and opinions from all members. Please use the link to read our response in full. Click here to read the letter in full. MAKING MONEY FOR YOU
Simon Walton, of Utility Warehouse, the discount club that reduces costs on basic services for home and business, tells the LBA of ways to tighten your belt, without feeling the pinch.
SAVING YOUR SAVINGS
Wouldn't it be nice to read, just once, a story that says "here's some money in your pocket"? This then, is the feature you've been waiting for. Utility Warehouse is not just about cutting costs - it's about making money for you too.
These days, you can't pick up a newspaper without reading advice about how to make ends meet when times are tough. However, to take advantage of the majority of these cunning plans, you'd already have to be as ecologically profligate as a posse of riders of the carbon apocalypse. So here are some ideas that can change your life, without changing your lifestyle.
Since you're already sensible enough to be a member of the Linlithgow Business Association, you've probably already put cost effectiveness at the top of your business agenda. However, the biggest saving you can make is just to realise that asset - make saving itself a credit for your company.
