Welcome to the July issue of the LBA newsletter!
Summer and school holidays are now upon us and as always things quieten off a little. A good time therefore to engage in a bit of navel gazing and review the LBA's constitutional set-up and Aims & Objectives in light of the excellent response to our recent member survey. This process we will begin at our next open meeting on Wednesday 22nd July and full details are given in the lead article below. This is the opportunity to increase the effectiveness of the Association so please make every effort to attend or contribute. There is also an update on the Aspires project and news of how one local business is focussing on quality and taking a very positive approach to the future despite the current economic downturn. We also offer a very warm welcome to four new members this month and look forward to hearing more of, and from, them. Finally, a reminder that the newsletter is a free opportunity to promote your business to other local businesses and we are always pleased to receive articles or members offers for inclusion (contact us by email or phone: 01506 510333 or mobile: 07767 713024) | |

WHAT IS THE LBA AND WHAT DOES IT DO? |
Aims & Objectives of the LBA
Following on from members' responses to our recent survey, attention has focussed on the "Aims & Objectives" of the Business Association. Draft proposals are set out below and will form the main item on the agenda at the next open meeting of the LBA which will be held at the Star & Garter Hotel, starting 08.00am, Wednesday 22nd July. The session will be facilitated by member Tom Robison (www.converseliving.com) and all members are encouraged to participate either by coming along to the meeting or providing their thoughts by email to our Secretary Anne Daly (anne@gogreenbags.co.uk) in advance.
The purpose is to give all members the opportunity to have their views included and will be the first step in formalising our Aims & Objectives and reviewing our Constitution. Draft Discussion Proposals: The Linlithgow Business Association has:
- a constitution (which sets out the structure of the organisation) and
- an 'action plan' (which sets out the current Executive Committee's intentions).
The 'action plan' comes in 3 parts: Short-term goals, medium-term goals and long-term goals.
Please attend the meeting on the 22nd July, particularly if you have ideas and proposals that you believe will benefit the Linlithgow business community.

LINLITHGOW ASPIRES UPDATE |
'Big Town Plan' made a number of Recommended Next Steps following their work in helping to launch Linlithgow Aspires (www.LinlithgowAspires.co.uk) earlier in the year. The particular order in which Linlithgow Aspires can practicably deliver those next steps required some further planning. A small team is making excellent progress having almost completed the first 3 month phase of putting together a 12 month plan for the next steps. The 12 month plan for Linlithgow Aspires will contain details and practical recommendations for the involvement of the wider local community, whilst preserving, and building on, the value of work carried out to date. Deliverables also include a draft constitution, terms of reference and governance structure for Linlithgow Aspires and a mentoring plan to maximise the value of input from outside sources and agencies. It is planned to complete this work by week commencing 20 July 2009. Further progress reports will be posted on the Linlithgow Aspires website by the end of July. |

This year for the first time in recent years the LBA took part in the Marches festivities with Deacon, David Tait and My Lord, Clare Pollock, doing the honours at various events this year. Having supported husband Tom from the sidelines for many years, Clare was delighted to have the opportunity to be more involved and to enjoy playing an active part in the Town's ancient traditions. After the event Clare was keen to encourage other members to join in next year - "We enjoyed an excellent breakfast at the Marquee along with all the other Deacons, My Lords and guests. It was fun being part of the ceremony as we were individually called forward to take our place at the table, and we enjoyed the interesting breakfast speech by Mr David Simpson." Then on to fraternise with the Dyers at the Palace before taking our places in the procession. "Marching the length of the town between Hop Scotch Dancers and The Extinguishers with the Steel Band not far away was really great fun. I'd strongly recommend it to all our members for next year"
Clare has agreed to be our representative at Deacon's Court so everyone interested in becoming involved next year, when we plan to enter a float, should contact Clare in the first instance - email: tandcpollock@blueyonder.co.uk Meantime our next outing will be at the Canal Fun Day, Sunday 16th AUGUST 2009 - all members wishing to take part should email Anne Daly to find out more: anne@gogreenbags.co.uk |
Business help & support based on many years of international experience with a multi-national is now available locally at low cost local rates!
was formed in 2008 to provide knowledge & experience in business operations & people behaviours. It takes it's name from concentrating on ensuring the right conversations happen in the right way, and more importantly, the missing conversations that really make the difference to business performance, and relationships within companies & organisations. And through this with its distinctive & fun approach, it brings people, teams & organisations to life. So why would you come to us? Using a highly engaging & inclusive approach, converse living works with companies of all sizes & type, as well as with individuals. It is likely to be particularly attractive to small & medium sized local business as the application of blue chip level processes & thinking at low cost is very rarely available. Experience tends to show that it is these companies who tend to be at a competitive disadvantage as the normal cost of such services can be prohibitive & geographically restrictive.
