Editor's Picks: Videos for Writers
by Susan E Caldwell, PhD

You can tell it's almost summer, because the pace of life and work seems to be slowing a bit. This week's Insider is abbreviated, because we didn't get any hot job leads. Haven't received any guest-authored articles to publish this week, either. But I have run across a few videos that I think you might find interesting. Here they are:

The Pursuit of Happiness: Writers, among many others, want to know what happiness is and how to find it. Dr George Vaillant, a now-74-year-old Harvard professor, began studying 268 men in their 20s. His study, the longest longitudinal study of men in history, has yielded considerable wisdom that he warmly outlines in this short video by The Atlantic.com

Inspiring Authors: By Author magazine, wonderful, wise words about writing from well-known authors.

Writing Lefthanded: How to improve lefthanded writing; a short instructional video that identifies and discusses ways to remedy the common problems associated with lefthanded writing. Lefthanded pens, other tools, and writing guide, and a link to the Lefthanders Club.

Writing a Resume: When seeking a job, the resume is of considerable importance--it's your calling card and door opener. Here's a video that helps you create the right resume and minimizing the stress while you do it. Includes ten rules for how to approach your resume, interview, and job search. Very good basic advice.

Writing Your Resume Cover Letter: Same instructor as for Writing a Resume (above). Gives good basic advice on how to craft your cover letter and get the job interview you seek.

The Art of Medical Writing: Short video on the Masters in Medical Writing program at the University of Philadelphia, the only such training program in the world.

Writing a Proposal for a Nonfiction Book:  If you'd like to write and publish a nonfiction book, here's a short video that tells you how to plan, write, and package a nonfiction book proposal.

eHow.com: A little off the subject of writing, but a great web site for learning how to do almost anything you can think of. Maybe a good side for exploring this summer.
