The Spotlight

Our spotlight is on an amazing transformation of a corporate storage room.  It was the desire of the owner of this company to convert a storage room into a nice break room for the employees.  After a little merge and purge action, the storage room that began as this...

FridgeIt's WHAT month?

Turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie...the opportunities for leftovers are endless this time of year!  But where will those leftovers go?  Do you have room in your refrigerator?

November is "Clean Out Your Refrigerator Month" and for good reason.   Cleaning out your refrigerator now--before holiday meals commence--will help you make sure you have a place for all of those leftovers!

How many unrecognizable items are living in your fridge?  It may be frugal to save leftovers, but only if you actually use them.  Over time of unuse, leftovers become food clutter and a potential health hazard! Schedule a day in the next week or so to give your fridge a "makeover." Be sure to check expiration dates carefully on condiments. Jelly may be filled with preservatives, but after the expiration date has passed, those preservatives go on strike!

Most foods have a "shelf life" even if they seem to last longer than that.  For items with no expiration date, toss anything that's been in the fridge longer than a year.

While you're working on the fridge, you may want to tackle the pantry as well.  Some items, like grains and spices, should only be kept for about 6 months. Be especially careful of anything with oils in it.  Nuts, peanut butter, vegetable shortening, and bottled oils can go bad very quickly.

If you find canned or boxed foods that haven't been opened, and you're not planning on using them in the next week or so, consider donating them to your local food bank.  These organizations accept non-perishable items for distribution to shelters and social service agencies in their area.  freeFor a free list of local food banks in the Dallas Metroplex, contact Organized Chaos!

As always, if your refrigerator and/or pantry need organized, and you'd like some help, call or e-mail us today!
