Our Spring Plant Sale is Sunday afternoon. We receive many generous donations from members and friends willing to share their plants. We will have veggies, potted plants, seedlings, cuttings, and transplants both native and adapted. If you have pass-alongs you would like to donate contact any member, or come by for corn grinding Thursday morning, or the open house on Sunday afternoon.
During the 1950s there was a terrible drought in Texas that lasted seven years. Elmer Kelton described the hardships in his book The Time It Never Rained. After that period there was plenty of rain for a good long time. The gardeners of the Volente area had fabulous flower gardens and started organizing to form what became our club. Now days we are not sure what name goes with what face........so if you can fill in the blanks please let us know.
We have not always had the water or the gardening savvy of our founding members but some of their plants have survived and thrived nonetheless. Last year our club flower the purple clematis bloomed all spring and summer along the pond edge in front of the mill wheel. We also have scarlet and white clematis but you need a sharp eye to find them.
