El Nino has the Garden Club buzzing with anticipation for an excellent growing season. In her Hutto greenhouse Cornelia Ferrel has been raising recommended tomatoes Celebrity, Heatwave, cherry tomatoes and lots of zucchini and yellow squash. Many members bring their favorite pass-along plants. Cherry Laurel is a small tree that Jan Herring says is easy to grow and has flowers for the bees and berries for the wildlife.
Here is a list of other tried and true favorites that will be there; 5 gallon size cedar elms; lots of gallon size Salvia farinacea (mealy blue sage); mountain laurel; yaupon hollies and pavonia (rock rose), windowsill cilantro and parsley, and many, many more.
We have lots of free literature about growing native and adapted plants.

Guided tours will focus on ecology and feature Golden-cheeked Warblers, plants, butterflies and bugs. Enjoy a variety of displays on native plants and wildlife species. Children's activities include bird identification, bird drawing, making bird feeders and much more. Light snacks will be served but we encourage you to bring a sack lunch for those longer walks.
