Hurricane Ike
"Fill the Trailer"
Food Drive |
As we all know Hurricane Ike ravaged the Texas coastline this past weekend, leaving in its path a wake of severe destruction. More than 30,000 people are currently living in shelters across the state and that number is increasing by the day as many people are coming to the realization that they won't be able to return to their homes for some time. The road to recovery is certainly going to be a long one for evacuees and the recovery effort has taken its toll on local area food banks.
To support local disaster relief efforts and the Capital Area Food Bank the Volente Neighborhood Association in conjunction with Village of Volente will be hosting a "Fill the Trailer" event over the weekend beginning early Saturday morning lasting through early Monday morning.
A U-Haul trailer will be parked in the Volente Fire Station parking lot throughout the weekend ready to take any of the items requested below:
Items requested:
1) bottled water
2) granola bars
3) canned meats, soups, and meals (pop-top lids)
4) peanut butter
5) diapers & wipes (adult and baby)
6) personal care items (toothpaste, toothbrush, feminine products, soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc.)
As a community let's all step up to the plate to help our fellow Texas neighbors in need!
