PRIX DU QUÉBEC

The Prix du Québec consists of two awards of £1,000 (each) offered by the Québec Government Office in London and administered by BACS. It is designed to assist researchers based in the UK to carry out research related to Québec by facilitating a research visit to Québec.

One award will be given in each of the following categories:

●     Masters and doctoral students
●     Researchers and academic staff (including postdoctoral researchers)
 
Deadline: 15 February 2010

Eccles Centre Fellowships 2010

Applications for the 2010 fellowship awards are now open.

Four copies of applicatons (in hard copy) should be submitted by 5pm on 28 February 2010.

Institute for the Study of the Americas - Postgraduate Open Day

The Institute is the only postgraduate centre in Europe to offer degrees on comparative Americas as well as each sector of the hemisphere. The institute offers the largest Latin American programme in the UK and the longest-established United States degree programme in Europe.


The next Postgraduate Open Day will take place on

Wednesday 10th February 2010
14.30pm - 18.30pm

To register your attendance, please email stating your full name, email address, programme of interest and how you heard about the Institute. The Open Day provides the opportunity to:
  • Tour the Institute - you will be shown around by a current student
  • Take a tour of Senate House Library and the Latin American, Caribbean and United States collection
  • Meet academic staff
  • Talk to current postgraduate students
  • Discuss the application process and postgraduate funding opportunities

Inaugural Lecture

Richard Dennis is giving his inaugural lecture as Professor of Human Geography at UCL on Thursday 18 March at 5.30pm. His subject is No Abiding City: transience and transfiguration in 'modern' cities. He promises to include at least some Canadian content!

Interview with Coral Ann Howells and Eva-Marie Kröller

This email interview, conducted in December 2009 by Manuela Costantino of Canadian Literature, invites Coral Ann Howells and Eva-Marie Kröller, co-editors of The Cambridge History of Canadian Literature(2009) to reflect on their experience of editing the volume.
 

Foundation for Canadian Studies awards

Revised and updated Guidelines and Application Forms have been drawn up for UK Postgraduate Canadian Studies Travel Awards Program, Canada-UK University Partnerships Program, and Ontario Bicentennial Travel Awards Program.  The deadlines for applications for these programs are the 31st of January; May; and October 2010.
 
Deadlines for the newly-launched Foundation Independent Scholars Awards for Canadian Studies in Britain for 2010 are also 31st January; May; and October 2010.
 
The UK Doctoral Studentships Program and Foundation Canadian Studies Development Program (both deadlines 31st May 2010) will shortly be revised; also the Foundation Canadian Studies Publication Fund, deadlines 31st January; May and October 2010.
 
An Information Sheet outlines briefly all these programs.

Transatlantic Studies Association Annual Conference at Van Mildert College, Durham University, 12 - 15 July 2010

If you are thinking of presenting a paper at the TSA conference that will have a Canadian dimension please inform Tony McCulloch as soon as possible. Some assistance may be available for expenses of delegates presenting papers that include substantial Canadian content, especially in the case of papers included in the "special relationships" panel.
