 BASEBALL Flying Dutchmen Sweep Albion on the Road
Hope 7, Albion 3 / Hope 8, Albion 0 Complete game pitching performances keyed a Flying Dutchmen sweep of Albion on the road Saturday, 7-3 and 8-0. The wins solidify Hope's hold on second place in the MIAA standings with an 18-8 record. Adrian clinched the conference title with a sweep of their own over Kalamazooon Saturday to go to 22-4. Two games remain in the regular season with Hope hosting Albion on Monday.
In the opener, senior Robby Poll (7-2) pitched his 15th career complete game behind 10 strikeouts. Steve Lewis' bases-loaded double drove in three runs in the third inning. Hope also scored three runs in the fifth, two of them off a triple by Wyatt Curry.
In the nightcap, junior Derek Fairchild (3-3) pitched a two-hitter. He retired the last eight batters of the game, striking out the side in the seventh. Scott Snyder and Alex Fryer each had three hits. |
