by photographer Angela Jimenez opens May 14, 2010.

April 26, 2010 (Brooklyn, NY)- The Lesbian Herstory Archives presents Welcome Home, an exhibition of photographs by Angela Jimenez from her book, Welcome Home: Building the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival (self-published, August 2009).

The New York Timescalled the book "a remarkably intimate portrait of shared ritual and camaraderie."

Welcome Home is the first documentary book chronicling the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival, one of the world's oldest and largest lesbian feminist gatherings. The first-edition, hardcover book features 120 pages of photographs by Jimenez, a photojournalist who documented the Festival over the course of 6 years, during part of which she was a Festival worker. Welcome Home is an independent project by the photographer, not a publication of the Festival.

The Archives, a non-profit founded in 1975 and located in Park Slope, Brooklyn, is home to the world's largest collection of materials by and about lesbians and their communities.

"Angela Jimenez brings a transparency, beauty and insight into the world of womyn's space, a culture that has been either ignored or misunderstood by mainstream culture (gay and straight)," said Grace Moon, founder of Velvetpark Media, a co-sponsor of the exhibit. "In this case, seeing is understanding."

The premiere exhibit of Welcome Home ran at the LGBT Center in Manhattan from February through April, 2010.
