Some students mistakenly regard the saying, "Do not walk and eat at the same time" as a hard-and-fast rule.
In zen, there are no rules, only guides. The key point is to be mindful. The zen teacher Seung Sahn offer...ed a variation of this lesson at a retreat in San Francisco.
"Do not eat and read the newspaper at the same time," he said. "When you eat, just eat. When you read the newspaper, just read the newspaper."
The next morning, a student saw the teacher eating breakfast while reading the newspaper.
"I thought you said not to eat and read the newspaper at the same time," the student said.
To which Sahn said, "When you eat and read the newspaper, just eat and read the newspaper."

Greetings!

With all that is happening around the world these days, it is important to remember that what we all want most of all is to love and be loved. With that in mind, I want to offer you three valentine's gifts.
The first is a completely free meditation designed to help you touch the deepest place of Love within, and to channel that energy through all parts of you - your body, your words, your work, and all your relationships. It is entitled Networking Love, since one of its goals is to help increase the amount of Love throughout our world. We create our futures through the quality of our networked conversations.
If this seems like a foreign idea to you, I advise you to take a listen to my recent conversation with Harvard's Nicholas Christakis. Science tells us that we have more power and influence than most folks think. Our conversation is titled, "Getting the Most from Your Social Networks". ***This conversation will be available on 2/19/11 at the above link.
The second gift is a special Valentine's discount on Sexual Intimacy, a CD or MP3 download that is about feeling Love in a much more intimate way, and sharing it. Check it out. The third is a very special discount on personal appointments for coaching or therapy. And by all means, however you spend your Valentine's Day, remember to Love yourself - you deserve it. Early Spring blessings, Emmett Miller MD

Lovely music and imagery provide gentle, compassionate guidance for opening your heart and body to the beauty of loving. Learn first to love and touch yourself from within, then to share that sensitive intimacy with another. This CD (or MP3 Download) is a wonderful way to open yourself to the most intimate of your feelings - for anyone. In addition, it has proven valuable for helping those with problems of physical under-responsiveness, low self-confidence, fear, and premature ejaculation. The experience of making love can and should be a deep experience, one that is more than merely physical. It can be a richly rewarding emotional, mental, and even spiritual experience. We are talking about more than just "sex" - we are talking about truly "making . . . love," a deep and direct communication of caring and pleasure, in which both partners feel satisfied, fulfilled, and complete. This CD (or MP3 Download) is designed to be experienced - not just listened to. Promotional Code: IntimacyIn2011 (for both CD & MP3) Discount Valid Until: 2/28/11 |
