Greetings!

| The Chamber Hosts an Exciting and Successful Business Week | | |

On Tuesday morning, the Chamber began our annual Business to Business Expo and kicked off the day with a sneak peak into the event. Here, visitors had the opportunity to view exhibits representing services and products from over 60 area businesses.
After the sneak peak, we moved into our monthly Chamber luncheon where our members were able to hear Brad Miller, General Manager of Regulatory Affairs for Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, speak about the economic viability and the future of the Niobrara Oil Play as well as what economy and infrastructure we can expect to gain from it. "It is a three phase process and right now we are still in the first of those three." Miller said, "It takes about two years to do the exploration phase, two years in the development phase, and then you go into the exploitation phase." "There is responsible development that is going to happen and it is going to take several years to get there."

After the luncheon, many of our visitors moved into the Business Boot Camp where they were able to listen to 15 minute seminars by experts in several different business management topics that were designed to help business owners learn how to succeed by teaching effective operation strategies.
Next, the Business to Business Expo really got going and attendees were able to network with hundreds of potential contacts, sample hor d'oeuvres, and enter drawings for prizes from local merchants.
Concluding the Expo, was our annual Economic Report Breakfast on Wednesday morning. This year we were fortunate enough to have Wyoming Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Neil McMurry interviewed by Brent Hathaway, Dean of the College of Business at the University of Wyoming. McMurry spoke of his life as a young man growing up during the great depression, his time serving our country in World War II, as well as his extensive business history and dedication to making Wyoming a better place for all of us to live and work. McMurry is optimistic about the future of our state but feels that the business climate could be improved if the government would provide relief from overregulation at state and federal levels. "They're just killing us with regulations, and it's not only with regulation but with enforcement," he said. "You almost get the feeling that they're trying to put you out of business. That is their goal." When McMurry was asked about what qualities were needed to succeed he said, "I don't know that there's any magic to it. You get up early, stay up late, and do what you have to do. You work as hard as you can and be honest."
In addition to the networking events, having Neil McMurry and Brent Hathaway at the 2011 Economic Report breakfast is quite a rare opportunity, Dale Steenbergen said. "The opportunity to host these gentlemen brings together two of the best business people in Wyoming. Neil brings years of success as a businessman in the state coupled with his undying commitment to the state's future with projects like Swan Ranch. Brent brings the future of the state highlighted by UW's new facilities at the College of Business. Together these gentlemen bring a tremendous amount of knowledge and advice about the past present and future economy of Wyoming."

Amber Nuse of McGee, Hearne & Paiz, LLP Selected for Elite Group
Amber Nuse, Senior Manager with McGee, Hearne & Paiz, LLP, was one of 33 CPAs under age 36 selected to participate in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' (AICPA) annual Leadership Academy in Durham, N.C.
Nuse joined fellow rising stars in the profession for three days in October 2011 to learn a cutting edge strategic thinking process and discuss a host of strategic issues facing CPAs and the accounting industry. Attendees participated in exercises to help them internalize the value of leadership personally and professionally and understand how they can impact their community, organization and the profession as a whole. They were joined by some of the profession's most experienced leaders, including AICPA Chairman Paul Stahlin and Barry Melancon, AICPA president and CEO.
"The next generation of CPAs has the responsibility to lead the profession into the future and ensure the obligation to serve the public interest continues to be met," said AICPA Chairman Paul Stahlin. "The Leadership Academy is a unique opportunity for these talented professionals to refine the skills they'll need to guide the profession in the coming decades."
The AICPA selected the 33 attendees of the Leadership Academy from 100 candidates recommended by their state CPA societies, employers or both.
Candidates submitted resumes which included work history, licensure information, professional volunteer activities, community service, and awards and honors. In addition, the candidates supplied an accounting related essay and a statement explaining why participating in the Leadership Academy would be important personally. The submissions were then reviewed and evaluated by the AICPA.
Nuse joined McGee, Hearne and Paiz, LLP in February 2005 following three years of audit experience at Deloitte & Touche LLP in Cambridge, England. Nuse graduated with honors from the University of Colorado at Boulder with her Masters of Science in Business Administration in 2001. She is a member of the Cheyenne Kiwanis Club and also serves on the Early Education Partnership Board. Amber is the proud mom to her two year old son, Blake. She also enjoys playing the piano and traveling.
Jim Hearne, Managing Partner of McGee, Hearne & Paiz, notes that this is a well deserved honor for Amber to be selected to participate in the AICPA Leadership Academy. The Academy provided a great opportunity for Amber to develop the skills needed to guide our firm and the profession into the future. |

Livability.com Names Cheyenne , WY a Top 10 City for Veterans
Cities were chosen based on quality-of-life attributes that appeal to veterans such as moderate climate, low cost of living and unemployment rate, as well as availability of outdoor recreational opportunities and cultural amenities. Additional consideration was given to cities with proximity to military installations and VA hospitals.
"We know it's important for veterans and their families to have access to quality medical care and social services," says John Hood, Livability.com spokesman, "so we chose cities with excellent health-care systems and VA hospitals. The cities on this list also tend to be more diverse, have excellent school systems and higher education options and greater opportunities for post-military employment."
Hood says Livability.com editors also looked at cities close to military bases, which give veterans access to other resources such as free legal advice and counseling, discounted food and household goods at the base commissary, and equipment rentals.
"One thing all 10 cities have in common is their inclusive nature and a proven history of community support for military families," Hood says.
Cheyenne , WY is such a city. Just 90 miles from Denver , Cheyenne offers both the romantic setting of the Wild West and the sophistication of a vibrant city. The climate in Cheyenne is semi-arid, with an average summer high around 80 degrees and a winter low of 11. No state income tax, low property taxes and a low cost of living make this city attractive to military veterans on a fixed income. Advanced educational opportunities and career training at Laramie County Community College and The University of Wyoming help give young veterans the skills they need to find good jobs. Veterans have access to the commissary and exchange at F.E. Warren Air Force Base and to medical care at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center.
Top 10 Cities for Veterans 1. Fayetteville , NC 2. Colorado Springs , CO 3. San Angelo , TX 4. Carlisle , PA 5. Madison , WI 6. Topeka , KS 7. Syracuse , NY 8. Kenner , LA 9. Tuscon , AZ 10. Cheyenne, WY |
