SUCCESS STORY

Healthcare Organizations Need
Chairside Visits to TPA Claim Office

I have reviewed the Assessments and Gap Analysis, and found only 2 of 30 Workers Comp Coordinators (WCC) have ever visited the claims office handling their claims. Such visits are always enlightening, even for me. So, that is my recommendation this week.

This recommendation, also in Customized Recommendations for Improvement, is helpful when the team, and the resident expert, discuss the recommendations to highlight the most important ones. The TPA will now arrange for each WCC to visit their office. During the visits, the WCC's will mostly watch and listen, but will also ask some important questions including:

1- Show me where the claim travels when it comes into the office. Who does it go to first?  What do they do to the claim?  What happens next?  Ask this for notice only, medical, lost time and catastrophic claims.

2- Do incoming claims typically have any problems such as incomplete information?  If so, what is the process for resolving this?

3- Tell me how you would improve the process?

4- Tell me about the best system you've ever seen?
