7 Reasons You Need a Website
A new poll by Discover Small Business Watch found that 45% of business owners think it's a myth that companies need a
website. Interestingly, that statistic directly correlates with the 46% of small business owners who don't have a website.
So, are you in that rather large minority of 45%? Or is there some other reason you haven't started your website yet? If you still need a little
convincing, check out this list of the seven essential reasons you absolutely, positively do need a
website.
1. Websites are the preferred research tool of
80% of your potential clients. That's right: Eight out of 10 potential
clients look online first to find a service provider. Sure, word of mouth might be able to trump that, but when Suzy & Joe Homeowner want to hire a cleaner
for a special job or ongoing maintenance, their first 'call' is to Mr.
Google. So what happens your company is not represented? Sadly, you
will have just lost out on 80% of your potential client base.
2. Websites promote your business 24 hours a
day, 365 days a year. Websites never take vacation; they never get sick;
and they certainly don't whine about working overtime!
3. Websites project professionalism. Even if your
client tells her sister about you, odds are that the sister is
going to check you out online. When you're not there, that absence sends a
certain message - an outdated, perhaps even unprofessional message.
4. Websites are relatively inexpensive. You can
get started for less than a few hundred dollars -- pennies in comparison
to running one ad in the local newspaper or taking out a ¼-page ad in the
yellow pages. It's even cheaper than designing, printing and distributing
a few hundred door knockers. Plus, websites are quick and easy to update,
giving them an almost limitless shelf life.
5. Websites allow you to take credit card
payments. Clients can pay in advance for their appointment with a credit
card rather than leaving you a check or cash. For many clients, the
ability to pay with credit card is a serious advantage - and you'll never
have to worry about whether the check will clear the bank!
6. Websites foster better communication with your clients.
Handwritten notes are a great, personal way to stay in touch with your
clients, but many busy, two-income families may prefer communicating via
email or even automated online forms. If clients are able to communicate
in the way that's most convenient to them -- whatever that is, then they
are bound to express even greater satisfaction about you and your
services.
7. Websites allow you to brand your business.Differentiating yourself with your logo and tagline may seem like small
potatoes, but in an already saturated market, it might be just the
competitive edge you need. Google will index your tagline and associate it with your company name -- which means that even if clients aren't clicking on your link, they are seeing your message.
