Green Irene Customer Feedback
|
"We
were thrilled to have a Green Home Makeover. We are already very
eco-conscious, but we know we can always learn more and do more to
reduce our carbon footprint and create a healthier environment for our
family.
My husband and I were excited when our Eco-Consultant, Terri
Rafiq, came to our home. She was impressed with what we had implemented
already, but there was still more to learn and some work for us to do.
Terri walked room by room with us and explained things we could do or
incorporate.
The Green Irene service and Green Home Makeovers are an
excellent value, are educational, and will help the health of our
family and environment in the long run. I highly recommend this service
for every household!"

How Green Is Your Electricity?
Electricity generation is one of the biggest components of a household's overall environmental impact. Going "off the grid" and generating your own power through wind or solar technology is a great way to take a big bite out of your carbon footprint. However , retrofitting a home remains an expensive approach, and opposition from zoning boards, landlords, and neighborhood associations can derail even the most dedicated efforts. What you may not know is that you may be able to buy green power today from your local electric company! In the past, a single utility provided all aspects of your energy service: both power generation and delivery of the power to your home. After deregulation of the electric utility industry in the 1990s, electricity suppliers were separated from electricity distributors in many states. This means that while your local utility continues to maintain the poles and wires that bring electricity into your home, you now have choices on the source of this electricity.
If deregulation has taken place in your state, then you may be able to purchase green power from an alternative electricity supplier. Suppliers may offer energy produced from hydro, wind, solar, or biomass-powered generating plants. The supplier may be the same as your local utility company (who may offer a 'green power' option) or it may be a separate company.
As clean energy suppliers gain customers, demand for clean energy (such as from windfarms) increases. The increased consumer demand directly increases the new projects planned and supports the development of a clean energy infrastructure.
Choosing a new energy supplier does not have an impact on the way you receive electricity; your local utility will still be the one to read your meter and handle service issues. Depending on the arrangement between your chosen supplier and the local distributor, you may receive two separate bills or you may continue to receive a combined bill for both services.
Even for those states where green power isn't yet available through your utility or an alternative supplier, you can purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) to offset the carbon emissions caused by powering your home with non-renewable resources like coal. RECs offer a way to support green power by funding the production of renewable energy. Many organizations offer RECs separate from electricity service, so you do not need to switch from your current electricity supplier in order to purchase these certificates.
With the different opportunities to support clean energy, now is a great time to make the switch to green power. Check out the Energy Department's Green Power website to see what green power offerings are available in your state.
Your local Green Irene Consultant is also a great resource for understanding your local clean energy options. Let your local Green Irene Eco-Consultant guide you in making this important step toward a greener life. This is just one of dozens of valuable topic areas we cover during a $99 Green Home Makeover.

Green Irene Joins Green America, BBB and the National Association of Realtors' Green Business Network
We
are proud to announce we have recently been approved as full members of Green America (formerly Co-Op America),
the Better Business Bureau and the National Association of Realtors' (NAR)
Green Business Network!
Green
America is one of the largest and oldest networks of environmentally
responsible businesses in the United States.
During a three-month screening process, Green Irene was evaluated in
different areas such as services, business practices, products and customer
service. Green Irene had to demonstrate that we actively use our business as a tool for positive social
change; run a values-driven enterprise that
operates according to principles of social justice and environmental
sustainability; we are socially
and environmentally responsible in the way we source, manufacture, and market
products and run our office; and we are committed
to developing and employing extraordinary practices that benefit workers,
customers, communities, and the environment. The Better Business Bureau has accredited Green Irene after reviewing our business standards and practices over the last
two years. We have met the BBB Code of Business Practices and will
continue to represent these standards through our business. We have also made a commitment
to continue to resolve any consumer complaints as well as abide by the BBB
Standards of Trust, which are to build trust, advertise honestly, tell the truth,
be transparent, honor promises, be responsive, safeguard privacy and embody
integrity.
We
have also recently become a charter member of the National Association of Realtors' (NAR) Green Business Network. This
network connects the green products and services industry with the 9,000 Green Designee
Realtors around the country. There are over 1.1 million realtors, and the number receiving the Green Designation is growing quickly. This network will allow realtors
to work with Eco-Consultants to provide referrals, offer Green Home Makeover
gift certificates and green gift bags as closing gifts, and co-sponsor Go Green
Workshops. Green Irene is excited about this partnership and hope to work with other professional groups in the future.
