What's New At Sojos?

We're continually working to make our business more "green". Recently we were featured as a "Success Story" by Minnesota Waste Wise who had the following to say about
our recycling and composting efforts: "Sojos recycles an estimated 2,500 pounds (more than a ton!) of plastic film annually through the It's in the Bag program.
It composts 26.5 tons of food waste. It has tripled its cardboard recycling to 15.6 tons annually. And the company has reduced its trash pickups from 8 yards per week to 2 yards per week, a 75% decrease. Sojos now diverts more than 43 tons of trash annually from the landfill or incinerator." We know we can do even better, and are working hard to continually improve our efforts!

Don't forget: all of our bags and boxes can be recycled!

Sojos Pet of the Month

Meet Elvis, a dachshund who's been eating Sojos since he was a pup. When Elvis' mom Kim discovered she had a very picky puppy on her hands she was concerned he would not develop into a healthy adult dog because he refused to eat everything that was put in front of him.  Soon Kim heard about Sojos and since day one Elvis has been eating well and enjoying meal time. Kim says he gobbles up batches of Sojos Grain-Free Fruit & Veggie mix daily. The best news of all is that Elvis hasn't had any health problems throughout his six years of life. He has always maintained a healthy weight (which is especially important for dachshund's fragile backs) and Kim often receives compliments on his shiny coat! Kim says she is "grateful that Sojos not only provides healthy food that her dog relishes," but that it "also keeps him very fit and healthy year after year."

Soaking our freeze-dried foods.

We are often asked why we recommend soaking our foods for at least 30 minutes before serving. In fact, we recommend that you soak the food overnight if possible. We know you're very busy and time is at a premium, but we recommend this timing for a very good reason. To make it easier, simply mix up a fresh batch each time you feed your dog. By the time the next meal time rolls around, the food will have had plenty of time to soak!

Dogs have strong but very short digestive tracts. Meat requires basic digestion. Fruits, veggies and even grains require more complex digestion. Because of this, soaking
the food makes each ingredient easier (and faster) to digest, which is good because a dogs' intestinal tract is very short!  Many of you also have concerns over what appears to be "excess" water in the food bowl when you are serving your dog their daily meals. We often hear that you are concerned that your pet will get too much water. Do not fear, the water that you see in the bowl is packed with nutrients because it has soaked with the fruits, veggies, meat and sometimes grains. Finally, if your dog isn't as thirsty after a meal he will simply visit his water bowl less often throughout the day.  Though your dog certainly does get water from their food bowls at mealtime, the water necessary to digest kibble far exceeds any amount of water your dog will need to digest healthy, raw food. In the end, your buddy will thank you for not having to gulp excessively in an attempt to digest and breakdown those bits of hardened kibble in their stomachs after mealtime!

Sojos Q & A

Q: What's the difference between Europa and Grain-Free? Recently we've been receiving quite a few questions about the differences between our products and what names each product officially goes by.

A: Trick question - they're they same thing! That's right, Europa and Grain-Free are the same foods! Two of our four foods are often referred to by their previous names. Sojos Original (formerly known as European style dog food) is our only grain based diet. It is wheat and corn free, and looks similar to oatmeal, as it is made with oats, rye and barley.  Sojos Grain-Free Fruit & Veggie mix (formerly known as Europa) is a 100% grain free mix that you add meat to when you prepare it in your home. Finally, our two complete recipes include meat and they are called Sojos Complete Turkey and Sojos Complete Beef. Both complete diets are also 100% grain-free, and have the added convenience of having the meat already in the bag!

Sojos Q & A

"Sojos has produced a healthy, beautiful dog in

my yellow

lab named Buck.  He is now 3 ½ years old and wonderful! After feeding puppy chow, I switched to Sojos. I was tired of losing animals at 6-8 years old. I reflected on our dogs when I was a child and remembered they all died of old age.  I am 69 years old and remember all of our dogs living to 15 or 16 years of age. When I thought about what they ate, I realized they ate our food: human food. They did not eat food with additives and chemicals. Buck does not smell like a dog and his coat is shiny and soft. I took in a Boston Terrier off the streets who had lost all of her hair on her back from skin infections. She's been eating Sojos for one month and her hair has grown back and her coat shines like a polished shoe!  Thank you so much for an incredible product!"
