Reduce, Re-use & Recycle
This month we celebrated Earth Day. What are we doing at Sojos to be as earth-friendly as possible? For one, this newsletter! Sending an e-newsletter is important to us
because it reduces the number of natural resources we use for our
publications. Second, our bags are
recyclable. All three of our food mix
bags can be recycled. For recycling
purposes Sojos Original and Sojos Grain Free are number 2's and Sojos Complete
is a number 4. In fact, we've partnered with Minnesota Waste
Wise and their "It's in the Bag" program.
You can participate too - by visiting your local co-op or recycling
center and utilizing their plastic bag recycling programs. Many co-ops and natural food stores
participate around the country. Our
treat boxes are made of recycled materials and are also recyclable - just remember to take out the plastic window
before you toss them in the recycling bin.
Finally, we continue to reduce and reuse by composting and recycling
(even our commercial goods like containers, plastic wrap, paper towel, food
waste and more). In total, we've reduced
our waste by 70% over the past 5 months and have increased our recycling by 75%.
We are furthering our efforts by
starting a sustainable lighting project by recycling our old fluorescent light
bulbs and replacing them with sustainable lighting through Voss Lighting
MN. Check out these thinks to see who
we've partnered with: www.mnwastewise.org www.makedirtnotwaste.org www.vosslighting.com |
Sojos Q & A

Q: I see pieces of
carrot in my dog's stools, is this anything to worry about?
A: First off, no, it's
not anything to worry about. Second,
despite the appearance of pieces in your dog's stool, you can be assured that
they are digesting them properly and getting nutrients from them. Different foods are digested
differently. Might sound overly simple,
but it's true. What remains in the feces
that look like whole carrots is really the undigested, unneeded fibrous
portion of the carrot shell, which is essentially the skeleton of a
carrot. This is why it appears as if the
carrot has come through the body whole when in fact, the nutrients and minerals
have been stripped away and digested.
Fibrous foods are important not only for their nutrient value but because
they also act as a cleaner for the intestinal tract; as food particles move
through the colon, they act as a scrubber and actually help to detoxify the
colon.

As a satisfied customer of Sojos, I have a
13-year old lovely little mutt that I've fed Sojos with raw meat and veggies
for over a decade who doesn't suffer from the many maladies suffered by the
dogs of my friends and family who are fed processed pelletized junk. Thanks for producing such a fabulous, natural, whole food product. I'm a customer for my life, the life of my dog, and
the lives of my future dogs!
