DIVA TESTED HUNTING GEAR THIS ARTICLE WILL CLOSE OUT AFTER THIS ISSUE, BUT WILL BE ON WEBSITE. I'M STILL LOOKING FOR A DIVA TO SEND ME A WARM WEATHER HUNTING GEAR GUIDE This the first in a on-going series of articles on what to wear while hunting in different climate zones and weather conditions around the world. We have many new DIVAS and new DIVAS who choose to learn to hunt need to know what works & where. Traveling DIVAS also need to know what works for their hunting destinations.
Your DIVAnews Editor will kick off the series with how to be comfortable hunting in North Eastern US October-May. Contributing DIVA: Cynthia Desch Hometown: Washington, PA - SW of Pittsburgh Weather conditions (Oct-May): 10-60F, dry, rain, snow, wind, sleet for deer season. 30-70F for spring gobbler (May) Hunting in the northern regions of the US requires versatility of clothing and layering. I have 2 jackets and one pair of pants, 2 different under layers, fleece vest & top and socks and 3 pair of boots that can take me from 10-F to 70F. I really do not go out below 10F. Your outer gear has to be rainproof, which also makes it wind proof. I've hunted in Northern Quebec and in a single day had sun, rain, sleet, snow and always wind. Rifle deer season in PA is December into January - so the weather is all over the dial. In Pennsylvania, the hunting laws require 200" of International Orange clothing - hat and vest minimum. Hunting in northern states is heavily wooded or tall brush and we have to be seen by people. Deer cannot see color. I like to walk drives, so being able to move freely is a necessity and being able to ventilate while walking. JACKETS: Waterproof/windproof warm w/hood Waterproof/windproof shell w/hood Cammo hoodie PANTS: Waterproof/windproof shell LAYERS; Silk long johns Under Armor long johns Polar Fleece crew or T-neck Double fleece vest BOOTS: Tall 800 gram Thinsulate cammo - waterproof Lace-up hunting boots - insulated and waterproofed Lighter weight hiking boots - waterproofed HEAD: Fleece Bomber hat - reversible orange & cammo Intl Orange lined + earflap baseball hat Same as above in cammo Regular cammo baseball hat Earmuffs Silk scarf at neck - warm and can breath through it Cammo face mask - warm and sheer for spring gobbler HANDS: Windproof cammo Cammo glove/mitt windproof Thin cammo gloves for warmer weather SOCKS: Wool Fleece OR what works for you - heavy socks are NOT always best All of the above clothes can be layered on or off for total warmth. In our recent deer season, the first day was 60F then it went to highs of 25 (15 at daybreak) Here are temperature ranges & layering combination's: 60 - 70F Shell pants Shell jacket Silk top Hiking boots 50 - 60F +Under Armor top +Vest +Silk long johns 40 - 50F +Under Armor bottom +Fleece top 30 - 40F +Heavy jacket +silk top & bottom +Under Armor top & bottom +Fleece crew or T-neck +lace up hunting boots or high boots under 30F Layer it all Warmest boots
BASED ON THIS FORMAT, SEND ME YOUR PREFERRED GEAR FOR OTHER CLIMATES - LOOKING FOR NORTH-CENTRAL, NORTHWEST, SOUTH, SOUTHEAST, SOUTHWEST OR ANY UNIQUE CLIMATE YOU HAVE HUNTED.

TECHNO PROBLEM ALERT!!!!
FROM CHERYL LONG & CYNTHIA DESCH It has come to our attention that some DIVAS are not receiving their DIVAnews or other DIVA emails.
If you forward a DIVA email by using your forward button (not the linked forward email text at the bottom of the email) and the receipent of that email clicks on 'unsubscribe' or 'report spam', you will be removing your self from the email list.
So, if you want to forward any of our DIVA emails to anyone, please do so by using the forward email link at the bottom of the page. Or delete that portion of the email and then forward using the button on your tool bar.
If, however, you end up deleted, please follow these simple steps to get
back onto the list:
1 Inform Cheryl or Cynthia of the problem. We will send an exsiting DIVA email directly from your email. (does not matter who it was originally sent to.)
2 YOU must add yourself back onto the General Information group list by clicking on the Update Profile/Email Address link at the bottom of the page and adding yourself back on that list. WE ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ADD YOU BACK - YOU MUST DO THIS YOURSELF.

LIAISON LINK
Cynthia Desch - Liaison Coordinator
GREETINGS DIVA LIAISONS! We have so many plans in the works to help our DIVA Liaisons grow their local area chapters and I want to share some ideas I am working on to assist you. Probably the most exciting clinic happening nationwide now is the Project Appleseed which teaches the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship and intertwines these skills with the history and heritage of our great nation. Rifle skills are becoming a lost art in modern America, but they feel are as important today as they were on April 19, 1775 when the first shots were fired on Lexington Green. DIVA WOW had a well attended and exciting clinic last month in DFW area. Go to PROJECT APPLESEED to find or have them produce a clinic near you.
OKLAHOMA OKLAHOMA DIVAS FACEBOOK PAGE At the DIVA Conference, I had the pleasure to meet the OKC DIVA contingency and at DIVA WOW Spring Clinic, I had the pleasure to meet OK DIVA Bo Kocuiba. It's such a pleasure to meet face to face the ladies we interact with on-line. Traveling DIVAS, contact TONDA COLLINS for info on Oklahoma events or OKC CONCEAL CARRY CLASS REGISTER for the 4/9/11 class. NEW MEXICO Report from NM DIVA WOW Liaison, Mardi Campbell: The Enchanted New Mexico DIVAS held an NRA handgun safety certification class March 26th and 27th. The instructor was Bruce Hosea who teaches third world security forces under the Anti Terrorism Assistance Program on behalf of the Department of State. Among many other things he is a National Rifle Association instructor in pistol shooting.
We had 5 ladies who participated. Everyone graduated and some, who had never shot before, entered the fabulous world of shooting and were thrilled! The Sat. classroom portion was held at Mardi Campbell's (Ms Asset) home and Sunday was held at a private shooting range out west of Albuquerque. Plans are being made to hold a shotgun clinic in May or June. Traveling DIVAS contact MARDI CAMPBELL to attend the next clinic.

ARCHERY ATTENTION DIVAS - please send me your ARCHERY destinations in all states!
DIVA Wenter Blair, DIVA WOW Archery Coordinator will begin a monthly article for DIVAnews on archery. Look to meet Wenter next issue and welcome her to the DIVAnews Pro Staff
TEXAS ARCHERY ACADEMY will be hosting a new series of youth archery tournaments. Locally, Texins Archery Club at Elm Fork will hold the competitions the first Saturday of each month starting in March.
Texas Archery Academy (TXAA) provides structured archery training programs statewide, for all ages; focused on youth development and achievement in the sport of archery. These programs build upon introductory archery experiences throughout the state (such as NASP, Outdoor Adventures, BSA, 4H).
Youth tournament opportunities are further developed by sponsoring local archery organizations and municipalities to host competitions as part of a statewide tournament system called the Texas Cup. This introduces the next generation of archers to safe practice facilities and mentoring.
This growth of the state's competitive archery population creates not only individual development benefits, and greater recreational shooters, but a feeder system to nurture archery prospects aspiring to reach the Olympics! TEXAS ARCHERY ACADEMY

DOWN IN THE HOLLOW
Kinsley & I spent 10 wonderful days in sunny & warm Texas! We came in for the DIVA Conference/Fun Shoot and Spring Clinic. The DIVA Conference was much needed and kudos to Anginette Jorrey and her team for organizing such a wonderful day. Truly was a bonding experience for me and I garnered many new DIVAnews Assistants. And the Fun Shoot which was scheduled for 4/2 was hastily moved to 3/19 following the Conference and was such a good time. Thanks to Janna Fincher for quickly adapting to a 2 week schedule change.
The Spring Clinic was the most awesome to date and I take full responsibility for bringing the nice weather thus breaking the cold, rain, snow jinx of the past!
Cheryl & Denny Long hosted most of our stay which was so enjoyable since we all get along like family. Kinsley helped with some yard work, thus earning his Tex-Mex name of "Paco" Paco travels for scotch & a bed (bed optional). Sam Rhodes took him to a man cave in West Texas over the Clinic weekend and they had a hi-ho time. JR & I just collapsed Sat night and enjoyed a wonderful brunch with our guys at Al Biernet's on Sunday before reloading the storage unit with all the clinic gear.
I love Texas and we are starting a cursory rental hunt for Jan-March living - away from the nasty Northern winters.
The end is in sight for PA cold weather except for today which is snowing - yuk. With April the days will warm up considerably, I'll get my gardens cleaned up in preparation for my warm weather passion - gardening. LOVE IT! Coffee on the deck, lunch on the deck, dinner on the deck, laptop on the deck - woo hoo! Oh and don't forget wine time on the deck! Double woo hoo!
I would be remiss if I didn't give kudos to Chuck Ray of PRATO EYEWEAR. As you know, I got a pair of Rx shooting glasses last Fall and the DIVA Fun Shoot was really the first time I got to wear them. I even amazed myself, since I can NOW SEE the clay bird and I shot a 37 which earned me the #3 DIVA Shooter position! Mystii was #1 with 42 and Cheryl was #2 with 40.
Hugs - Cyn
