DIVA WOW STORY GOES AROUND THE WORLD!

This is most exciting happening since the founding of DIVA WOW.  For 11 years, we've been trying to attract the national media attention and it finally happened.  Since this story went out in August, more and more newspapers around the WORLD are printing it and Judy is being called daily to do more interviews.  Women who have been searching for the ideal organization to join have found us and you will see new members each month join us.

The legend of the bracelet d
braceletates back over 1200 years.  It was believed that wearing the bracelet would protect against harm, sickness, and misfortune.  The four knots symbolize the powerful forces of life: the sun, wind, fire and water.  The strands, which circle throught the knots depict the seasons of the year.  Movement of the knots along the wire blends the forces of nature with life's continuous evolution and brings strength to the wearer. The African elephant hair bracelet is handmade out of precious metals to resemble the original bracelet that was woven out of elephant hair.  Wear this bracelet and have good fortune and many years of love, prosperity and happiness.

DIVAS OUT & ABOUT
DIVA Alacia Lane should not have been out.  Here's what she reports:
Team - have a bit of bad news to share - yesterday I slipped on some ice outside my house and broke my ankle in two places.  Went by ambulance to the hospital. (Wahoooooo!) , yes I know, it would have been embarrassing for just a bad sprain but the sideways hanging ankle was a clue. The really bad news is that I have to have surgery to repair the breaks. Regretfully I need to withdraw from the League activities for the next 8 weeks. So sorry to leave you on such short notice and am really sorry to miss getting to know you better!
Mags, would you mind telling the guys over at the Range so they don't wonder why I am not showing up like normal?
Hope you all have a great week!

Editor note:  Please send our DIVA some good news!

DIVA TESTED HUNTING GEAR
This the first in a on-going series of articles on what to wear while hunting in different climate zones and weather conditions around the world.  We have many new DIVAS and new DIVAS who choose to learn to hunt need to know what works & where.  Traveling DIVAS also need to know what works for their hunting destinations.

Your DIVAnews Editor will kick off the series with how to be comfortable hunting in North Eastern US October-May.

Contributing DIVA:  Cynthia Desch

Hometown:  Washington, PA - SW of Pittsburgh
Weather conditions (Oct-May):  10-60F, dry, rain, snow, wind, sleet for deer season.  30-70F for spring gobbler (May)

Hunting in the northern regions of the US requires versatility of clothing and layering.  I have 2 jackets and one pair of pants, 2 different under layers, fleece vest & top and socks and 3 pair of boots that can take me from 10-F to 70F.  I really do not go out below 10F.  Your outer gear has to be rainproof, which also makes it wind proof.  I've hunted in Northern Quebec and in a single day had sun, rain, sleet, snow and always wind.  Rifle deer season in PA is December into January - so the weather is all over the dial.  In Pennsylvania, the hunting laws require 200" of International Orange clothing - hat and vest minimum.  Hunting in northern states is heavily wooded or tall brush and we have to be seen by people.  Deer cannot see color.  I like to walk drives, so being able to move freely is a necessity and being able to ventilate while walking.

JACKETS:

Waterproof/windproof warm w/hood

Waterproof/windproof shell w/hood

Cammo hoodie

PANTS:

                Waterproof/windproof shell

LAYERS;

                Silk long johns

                Under Armor long johns

                Polar Fleece crew or T-neck

                Double fleece vest

BOOTS:

Tall 800 gram Thinsulate cammo - waterproof

Lace-up hunting boots - insulated and waterproofed

Lighter weight hiking boots - waterproofed

HEAD:

Fleece Bomber hat - reversible orange & cammo

Intl Orange lined + earflap baseball hat

Same as above in cammo

Regular cammo baseball hat

Earmuffs

Silk scarf at neck - warm and can breath through it

Cammo face mask - warm and sheer for spring gobbler

HANDS:

                Windproof cammo

                Cammo glove/mitt windproof

Thin cammo gloves for warmer weather

SOCKS:

                 Wool

                 Fleece

OR what works for you - heavy socks are NOT always best

All of the above clothes can be layered on or off for total warmth.  In our recent deer season, the first day was 60F then it went to highs of 25 (15 at daybreak)

Here are temperature ranges & layering combination's:

60 - 70F           Shell pants

                        Shell jacket

                        Silk top

                        Hiking boots

SPECIAL MESSAGE

Dallas DIVA, Lynn Dowdle has been granted a special request for DIVAS to consider contributing to a charity she is involved with IF YOU KNEW which is raising funds for clean drinking water in the southern African nation of Zambia.  Divas who have hunted in Africa know of the water issues and the DIVA WOW Board of Directors believe this is a good cause.  Please visit the site and contact LYNN DOWDLE with any questions.

WILD EATS

Judy & I decided to change the name of this article from WILD GAME EATS to just WILD EATS because from time to time, the food item we want to share was not an animal or fish.  Perhaps this decision will open the channels of sharing your wild berry recipes or in this case, wild mushrooms!  If you're old enough to remember Euell Gibbons books (Chasing the Wild Asparagus) you may have a fabulous May Apple Butter recipe - OK I did make that when I was a young hippie girl!

Here is OK DIVA Tonda Collins with a bushel of Hedge Hog Mushrooms she harvested last August while on a fishing trip in Alaska.
mushrooms

Awaiting the recipe and if not received by press time - will publish next issue.  But this should give you ideas on what we are looking for.     Morel Mushrooms start popping up in Texas about now.

CYNTHIA DESCH
TECHNO PROBLEM ALERT!!!!

FROM CHERYL LONG & CYNTHIA DESCH
It has come to our attention that some DIVAS are not receiving their DIVAnews or other DIVA emails.

If you forward a DIVA email by using your forward button (not the linked forward email text at the bottom of the email) and the receipent of that email clicks on 'unsubscribe' or 'report spam', you will be removing your self from the email list.

So, if you want to forward any of our DIVA emails to anyone, please do so by using the forward email link at the bottom of the page.  Or delete that portion of the email and then forward using the button on your tool bar.

If, however, you end up deleted, please follow these simple steps to get

back onto the list:

1    Inform Cheryl or Cynthia of the problem.  We will send an exsiting DIVA email directly from your email.  (does not matter who it was originally sent to.)

2    YOU must add yourself back onto the General Information group list by clicking on the Update Profile/Email Address link at the bottom of the page and adding yourself back on that list. WE ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ADD YOU BACK - YOU MUST DO THIS YOURSELF.

3    Notify us when you have done so.  We will complete the process.

LIAISON LINK

Cynthia Desch - Liaison Coordinator

DIVA WOW President, Anginette Jorrey & I switched one of our DIVA jobs - Anginette moving over to help Judy Rhodes in Strategic Partner Development and moi as your new Liaison Coordinator.  We all thought it prudent for me to work on developing strong liaison, since I am stranded away from Texas in the wilds of Pennsylvania.  I have a different perspective on the needs of DIVAS who are out of state, out of area and out of region.  Look for more and more DIVAS getting involved around the country - and we are in all 50 states and 15 foreign countries!

Wonderful things are happening in Oklahoma!  OK DIVA, Tonda Collins, stepped up to the plate, gathered some friends and OKC now has a schedule of DIVA WOW events.  Tonda is a very busy executive, loves to shoot and knows how to delegate.  Tonda selected a few key women to help organize, and with the help of Anginette Jorrey, Judy Rhodes,Cheryl Long and Angela Schwendeman,  many more events are now on the calendar.

Oklahoma Liaison, Tonda Collins organized Oklahoma DIVAs First Meet and Greet at H&H Gun Range in Oklahoma City along with Beth Ann Amico, Suzi Rouse, Bo Kociuba and Angie Bailey.  It was a wonderful day in Oklahoma City.  Our event was held 10a to 4p.  25 women drop by to visit about DIVA WOW and 5 new members signed up during our fun and exciting day.  SHE Apparel Pro-Staffer, Beth Amico hosted a SHE fashion show.  Door prizes were given throughout the day.  Cheryl Long, Angela Schwendeman and Judy Rhodes attended from Dallas.   Check out OKLAHOMA DIVAS FACEBOOK PAGE and our website for more up to date scheduled events.  March 12th Oklahoma DIVA Handgun Class...Sign up now!  We have an exciting 2011 Calendar planned year of events for Oklahoma...come join the fun!

"How to Organize a DIVA Clinic" is our go-to manual and I will be using the excitement in Oklahoma as an example of how other areas in our great nation can have the same fun as in Texas.  So often, I hear - "..but everything happens in Texas.."  Yes, and in Colorado, Oklahoma, and a few other hot spots - not always big events but neither were Texas events 10 years ago.  We've found that having a written manual and teaching a liaison how to delegate and how to garner sponsors in her area is the key to spreading DIVA FUN!

Some women are just natural leaders and have the God given talent to take on big responsibilities - others would rather do a little something.  While leaders are necessary to get things started, the latter are who we want - many ladies doing little bits to make events happen in Wyoming, Utah, and all over the country.

DIVA WOW has evolved to a level that surpasses even our Founder Judy Rhodes' expectations - the January clinic in Wichita Falls, TX was estimated to draw around 25 women and they had 60 show up - in January!  We have liaison areas perking up in Louisiana, Iowa, Pennsylvania (finally!) and New Mexico.

As your Liaison Coordinator, I and WE will take your hand and show you how to start DIVA activities in your area.  I've got lots of ideas and can travel to help you out.

Don't be shy - throw up that hand and let us know if you are ready to have some DIVA WOW FUN in your area!  Contact me CYNTHIA DESCH

ATTENTION DIVAS - please send me your ARCHERY destinations in all states!

TEXAS ARCHERY ACADEMY  will be hosting a new series of youth archery tournaments. Locally, Texins Archery Club at Elm Fork will hold the competitions the first Saturday of each month starting in March.

Texas Archery Academy (TXAA) provides structured archery training programs statewide, for all ages; focused on youth development and achievement in the sport of archery. These programs build upon introductory archery experiences throughout the state (such as NASP, Outdoor Adventures, BSA, 4H).

Youth tournament opportunities are further developed by sponsoring local archery organizations and municipalities to host competitions as part of a statewide tournament system called the Texas Cup. This introduces the next generation of archers to safe practice facilities and mentoring.

This growth of the state's competitive archery population creates not only individual development benefits, and greater recreational shooters, but a feeder system to nurture archery prospects aspiring to reach the Olympics! TEXAS ARCHERY ACADEMY

DOWN IN THE HOLLOW
cyn
Here it is end of February - it's still cold up North, but the sun is warmer, snow melts faster and the days are a bit longer.  By end of March we will see green things popping up in the woods - cannot wait for Spring!  Although every day is a great day, I really do not like the l-o-n-g Northern winters and we are giving thought wintering somewhere sunnier & warmer in the future.

Well my Steelers lost the Super Bowl so BIG CONGRATS to all the Packers Fans - they played an excellent game and deserved the trophy.  Next September starts a brand new March to the Super Bowl!

The hubs & I finally joined a local skeet & trap club (Washington Sportsmen's Club) so now I have a "home" for DIVA events.  Nothing like jumping right into the action - we are the Registered Skeet Shoot coordinators.  We went to observe a Sunday skeet shoot and learned that they shoot NO MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER!  So when it was 0F with a -15F windchill, they were out there - now that's commitment!  I also learned that I can use my Benelli 20 ga shotgun (my first shotgun) for skeet, which will be nice on the shoulder.  So you can see that even though I've been a DIVA for 6-1/2 years now and do a lot within the organization, I am still in the LEARNING stages of many things shooting.

NEWS FLASH!  Kinsley & I will be coming to Dallas for the DIVA CONFERENCE and DIVA SPRING CLINIC!  That's right - 10 days!  I decided that the best way for me to write up our major events is to be there.  Though the hubs knows Judy & Cheryl very well, he is looking forward to meeting the other gals I always talk about along with the husbands we all know & love.  I am so excited to see my DIVA girlfriends again!  On top of all this, one of Kinsley's friends from High School lives in The Colony & we'll be over there for BBQ -  Desch's HAVE GUNS-WILL TRAVEL will be seeing y'all real soon.

Then end of April the Annual NRA Convention returns to Pittsburgh.   JR & Cheryl are flying up and we will don our DIVA Ambassador hats seeking out new relationships at the show.  In addition, we will all be doing NRA volunteer work on the Saturday afternoon.  DIVAS planning to attend, please contact me so we can hook up!  We already have cocktail date with Irwin Greenstein so join in the fun!

Hugs - Cyn
