Hello Friends -
The best sailing vacation in the country this month is right outside the window. For in-staters, harbor trips require no days off and little or no travel time -- just pure, 100% escape and relaxation.
The best thing about such a vacation is that in the process of fun, the less one is tied to land. The less one's responsibility to daily details, the more one smiles. Magnify the one by 4, and an entire family has fun together while learning an enjoyable skill.
This month we offer 2-for-1 sails, charter discounts and a variety of gifts. 'Tis the season that our best sailing deals of the year can be found, from classes to great escapes... |

Part 4: Follow Le Pingouin's Voyage Around the World

Van Liew First Into Capetown!
American Brad van Liew today sailed into Cape Town to claim victory on the first leg of the Velux 5 Oceans.
Under clear blue skies and with a fresh south easterly breeze, the 42-year-old from Charleston, South Carolina, blasted across the finish line in Table Bay at 17.51 local time (15.51GMT) at 10-12 knots in a 15-knot wind. Van Liew, who won the 50ft class in 2002 Around Alone, the predecessor to the Velux 5 Oceans, and who has twice competed in the race before, took 28 days, 1 hour and 51 minutes to get from La Rochelle in France to Cape Town, a 8,003 nautical mile passage"... read the article"I felt like I had the boat totally prepared for the finish. Not so. I was hit by 40 knots of breeze last night. It was upwind conditions in 40 knots of breeze with a following Southern Ocean swell. Not what I was looking for in the final hours of my 27+ day voyage. Welcome to Cape Town! The weather systems are notably unpredictable and challenging. Following the chaos offshore was a painfully slow approach. All the noise stopped. It took one hour to go from 40 knots to nothing"... Brad's Blog
ONDECK is a major sponsor of Brad's campaign by making available a complete line of Official Team Lazarus/Le Pingouin gear.
