Hello Friends -
We're teaching a lot of people learning to sail this summer!
It's the best summer for sailing I've seen in 6 years. The winds are amazing and consistent, and so far we've had many, many days without the typical afternoon thunderstorms.
As Charleston is becoming better known as a sailing destination, more people are coming here to charter. This month in addition to classes we're offering mini-holidays where our captain does the work and you participate as little or as much as much as you like -- a great way to learn and enjoy the sport.
Consider this month taking a mini-vacation, spending water time with friends, showing your partner how relaxing a sail can be...

Dream Sails

Weekend Getaway to Edisto Inlet
Want
to get away for a 3 day sailing excursion? (perhaps forever, but 3 days is a start?) Our 38' Catalina is heading for South
Carolina's barrier islands. This time
of year, the coast and the marsh are gorgeous and the weather is
scheduled to provide perfect sailing conditions.
Day 1 Depart Charleston Harbor, pass through the jetties and out into the ocean. Take a right, head down the coast. In
late afternoon, sail up the North Edisto River between Seabrook and
Edisto Islands. Drop anchor in a protected creek that provides
seclusion, scenery, a sunset view and the sounds of ocean waves lapping
on a nearby beach. Day 2 Wake up and realize you don't have to be anywhere else today and you can do what you want. The list of possible activities include:
·Enjoying a cup of coffee while sitting in the cockpit and watching the herons, egrets and dolphins fish for breakfast
·Taking a stroll along a barrier island beach that has no roads on it;
Sailing up some sea island creeks and viewing old plantation houses from the water;
·Buying shrimp straight off the Rockville shrimp boats;
·All of the above and None of the above.
·Or go down below, pour yourself another cup of coffee, bring it up to the cockpit and ponder the day a little longer. Day 3...brings us back to Charleston Harbor by either going offshore along the
coast or by taking the inland route up the Intracoastal Waterway, which
is not only scenic but offers some very fun sailing. _______ It is a
phenomenal trip and it's right in your back yard. You don't have to
fly to the Caribbean to get away for a relaxing sailing adventure.This is why you take the classes. The experience is here. Now. Offered as a skippered charter. Date: Your call Cost: $865/couple. Call Ned at 843-971-0700 for a per person discount on 4 people. |

Melges 24 Race Training
 Fastest Small Boat on the Water
·· 6 day clinic ·· July 27 to Aug 1 ··
we only hold these 3 times a year...
The Melges 24 is the most
exciting small racing boat and the fastest growing small boat racing
phenomenon in the U.S. today. Charleston Harbor is the site of several
nationwide Melges competitions each year.
OSA is the official Melges 24 training school.
OSA Melges 24 training prepares you for competition in One-Design racing sailboats categories 20 - 70 feet
in length, and PHRF and IRC racing sailboats 22 - 70+ feet in length. OSA classes get you in top shape for this year's east coast races and
next year's 7th Annual Charleston Race Week.
Melges training tutors sailors in a multitude of tricky and competitive situations. As one of the
east coast's best training grounds for racing, Charleston's wind and
currents easily upset a traditional strategic approach. Whether racing
an inshore harbor course or the offshore courses, the conditions and
fronts that roll through the Lowcountry throughout the year challenge
skippers and tacticians from all over the country.
OSA Melges
training also focuses on learning to handle fast-moving fronts, of
which we have many, powerful sea breezes and strong currents up to 3
knots.
+ Calling all women. Compared to larger racing boats, the smaller boats such
as Melges draw a disproportionately large female contingent. Lighter
weight boats are a pleasure for the smaller person to handle, and race
teams search out lighter crew.

Clinic dates: July 27 - Aug 1 Melges 24 Cost: $1890
