Greetings!
Managers and executive coaches offer advice and support to their staff/clients to assist them in setting and achieving specific agreed-to goals. It occurred to me, upon hearing from my youngest son, who is on the last leg of a 10-month trip to Australia, Thailand and New Zealand, that goal-setting has such universal application and relevance. And when done well, it can lead to significant success, rewards and enjoyment. With minimal input from me (okay I may have provided some guidance along the way!) he developed a realistic and well thought-out plan to tour N.Z on a bike and to camp along the way.
Throughout his travels, he has learned the importance of: having a clear destination with pre-determined milestones: evaluating options and routes; expecting the unexpected (he experienced his first earth tremor hours after arriving in Christchurch); planning for a rainy day and other obstacles; asking for help and directions and course correcting if necessary; and taking time to rest and re-charge the batteries to ensure he has the stamina to see the trip through to the end (in his case it is to attend a World Cup rugby game the day before his birthday!)He will return with lots of stories and inspiration from setting and achieving another one of his goals/dreams.
Life offers us the opportunity to turn ideas from a 'bucket list' into real-life experiences. Consider asking assistance from a Coach to help shape the idea/goal/dream into reality and you too will have lots to talk about!
Enjoy this issue of talent talk.
Cheers, Rebecca |

How To Attract Top Talent To Your Company
In today's competitive job market, where top talent determines the course of a company's success, it is wise to use inventive recruitment techniques to attract the brightest and the best.
Social media is in the contemporary forefront for attracting talented individuals to your company. A well-placed twitter or LinkedIn post listing your company's benefits and requirements can bring surprisingly positive results. Not only that, but it costs your organization nothing to advertise for positions using this method. The key is to post notices that stand out and draw attention to the unique qualities of your business. Rename the job title to sound more attractive. A poorly written social media ad can actually scare candidates away.

Exceptional Leaders...
Keep Their Key Employees
Exceptional Leaders know that losing critical employees can be a significant blow to an organization. Moreover, in today's robust economy, companies are more vulnerable to turnover. Ambitious people need to feel that they are valued. They need to be challenged, appreciated, rewarded and respected. Exceptional Leaders ensure these needs are met. Most resignations come from dissatisfaction with the boss, the culture, the job, career progress, or, on occasion, inequitable compensation.
Exceptional leaders are alert to sources of satisfaction and dissatisfaction among their employees. They take the necessary initiatives to make changes when needed and continually "market" the value of working for the organization. Click here to read the entire article... |
