Are you a 'glass half-full' or a 'glass half-empty' person? Positive leaders are universally more successful in unleashing the potential in their people. Emotionally intelligent leaders take time to understand the unique talents of each employee and then take steps to help leverage this talent through coaching. Happy, positive leaders care more, spending more time with staff finding out what matters to them and how to support them.
Do you spend more time solving problems or creating the right work environment that inspires achievement and success? Where are you currently focusing your efforts?
Results from a PWC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) Global CEO survey show that finding and managing talent is a top priority for business leaders, shadowing concerns about managing risk, investment and profit decisions. Two-thirds of CEOs believe there is a limited supply of candidates with the right skills and 44 % say creativity in the workplace is a major detriment.
The key to closing this gap is tapping into under-utilized pools of talent (e.g. younger generations) and creating a motivational, flexible work environment that appeals to a diverse workforce. Leaders who are accessible, transparent, positive and forward-thinking inspire people to become creative and fully-engaged in carrying out the company's vision, mission and strategy.
What type of leader are you?
