Thank you for supporting Measure Y, Oakland's violence prevention and public safety initiative.  This newsletter is a way for us to let you know how the funds raised through your generosity are being used to create a Safe Oakland.
New Measure Y Web Site Launched
what's new Now there is one site with everything you need to know about Measure Y, including an interactive neighborhood map, contact information for programs and police officers in your area, upcoming public meetings and events, and the latest news.  Learn about the police services, fire safety, and community programs in your neighborhood that are supported by Measure Y, by checking out our new web site at www.MeasureY.org.
Turning it Around: Marcus' Story
gradparents & child "Marcus", age 15, was referred to the Measure Y Program in June of 2006. Marcus was living at home with both of his parents and several siblings.  At the time of referral, he had dropped out of high school, was on probation for a misdemeanor, and his home life was unstable and in crisis.  Two years prior, Marcus's brother was shot and killed while walking out of a neighborhood store.  The family was devastated by the tragedy.  Read more about Marcus...
Did You Know?
dad and kids Through the funds raised through Measure Y, the rotating closure of fire stations has been eliminated.  You never have to worry whether your local fire station is closed, because every fire station in Oakland is now open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Learn more about the public safety improvements paid for through Measure Y.
