Mt. Bethel UMC

September 2, 2012

Our current sermon series is looking at the disciples as Jesus' Life Group. It is my privilege and responsibility to look at the Apostle John this Sunday.  With my personal experience with Life Groups and studying the disciples as Jesus' Life Group, I  am learning how important it is for a growing and changing disciple to be in an accountability group. A serious disciple is one who looks for ways to improve his/her spiritual life.

Therefore, I want to recommend you become  involved in some type of group that will help you grow in your spiritual life.  We have a great list of possibilities for you: Sunday school, Bible study, mission projects, and Life Groups. Our heavenly Father is easily found when we are seeking Him with all our hearts.

John was a young man who had a desire to know God; but he, like many of us, was following his own way. One day Jesus came by his fishing business and said to John and his brother James, come follow me and I will make you fishers of men. His positive response to that invitation changed John from a Son of Thunder to the Disciple of Love. If you want to reach your full potential, respond positively to the invitation of Jesus to follow Him; and your life will never be the same.

I am very pleased to announce the beginning of a  NEW class for single adults aged 40's to 60's who want to grow stronger in their faith walk. We will be studying biblical ways to live out our lives and other biblical issues of interest to the class.

Our purpose is to integrate discipleship into our daily lives through Bible Study and Christ-like action. Our mission is to put our faith into action by service to the needs of the community.

Our first class will be September 9. For more information, contact Glenn Ray at glenn.ray@mtbethel.org or 678-560-2801.

God bless us as we grow together.
Rev. Glenn Ray

Missions Ministry
Calling all supporters, adults and children alike, of missions in India!  Please join us for a "Friends of India" Ice Cream Social on Sunday, September 23, at 4:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. Reverend Dr. Peter Pereira and his wife Esther, the founders of Hope For Today in India, will share with us how your gifts have been used to advance the cause of Christ in a country that hungers to hear the good news. Come and see how your "compassion into action" was received this year in India. Whether you have sponsored a child, made God's Eyes, prayer journals, donated socks, band aids, ziploc bags, prayed for India or for someone going on a mission trip, or, simply, if you are interested in seeing how God is moving powerfully in this country, this social is for you!  Rejoice with us as we see how God is using Hope for Today and your prayers and gifts to "bring in the harvest."

Life groups for 4th and 5th grade children provide a nurturing environment for pre-teens to explore God's Word, grow in their faith, explore their walk with Jesus Christ and build relationships within their peer group. Life groups allow timely discussion, hands-on mission projects, Bible study and how to apply Scripture to their everyday lives. This is a wonderful bridge for children as they begin to transition from children's into student ministry. Life groups are forming now for the 2012-2013 school year.  Life groups for children 4th and 5th grade along with a parent/mentor are from 6:30-7:30 pm on Wednesday evenings in the Education Building. Our first meeting will be Wednesday, September 5, in F011. For more information, please contact sherri.juliani@mtbethel.org.
