July 29, 2012
Have you ever wondered what ministers do during the week? Every now and then someone will ask me. I am not sure if they are just curious or they just can't imagine what we do beyond the one or two hours we spend on Sunday preaching or praying. I have a laundry list of things I could tell you to try to impress you or at the very least try and convince you that my paycheck should keep coming. But instead I want to go a little different direction; I want to share some sights and sounds of the conversations, phone calls, emails, texts, etc. that came my way last week. We received word from our Romanian Mission Team that they had an incredible time at a camp with young adults who along with Mt. Bethel focused on the importance of family. I talked with Clint, who is working at Mt. Bethel and St. Philip and graduated from Seven Bridges program awhile back, is in ministry with us and loving it. The next day I heard from our Estonia team about the wonderful work God is doing there. In the hall an M25 (Mt. Bethel Youth Mission Camp) left to pray for & feed the homeless. When I checked my email it listed the folks in hospitals that different ministers are visiting and praying for. Another day that week, I visited Camp Hope and saw so many faces of joy and hope. The next day some ladies of the church were packing lunches for MUST to feed the needy in our community. As I walked the halls that day I heard the excitement of several staff as they were making plans to reach out to families and share God's love. The list goes on and on. You get the point. It is such a blessing to be a part of a church that is serving and giving and loving and going in the name of Jesus in so many ways. Some of you might still be wondering what I do. Well, I have the joy of serving along so many of you as we become more and more the hands and feet of Christ. You see the real story of the church is not what the pastors do, but what all of us do as Christ ministers to us together. I like what I saw last week; more importantly I believe Christ liked what He saw. Even more than that, it was clear to me Jesus was with us in the midst of it. The very best part is, I believe we are just getting started. I can't wait for next week.

New Celebration Choir - In addition to Chancel Choir, we are excited to announce the launch of Celebration Choir! No experience is needed. We will sing primarily in the 9:30 service and the music selections will be energetic and user-friendly!! Rehearsals will be Wednesday evenings from 6:30 till 7:30 sharp in room A23, beneath the Sanctuary and these rehearsals will begin on August 1. We would love to welcome you to this exciting new opportunity to worship the Lord in song. Chuck Newman & Robert McMichael will be directing the choir and we look forward to joining hands with you as we strengthen one another and the Mt. Bethel family through worship! Calling God's people! As you and your family start planning your fall schedules, please consider this: "Is there a place for ME in the Chancel Choir?" We are making several revisions that will hopefully encourage more of you to participate, including shortening our weekly rehearsals (Wednesdays, 7:30-9pm, with child care available!), and exiting the choir loft after the anthem and sitting with our families in the congregation for the sermon. Is singing experience/music reading skills required? Certainly beneficial, but not required. Just a willing HEART to SERVE. We resume rehearsals on August 1. Won't you come give us a try for a month and see if that hidden talent that God has entrusted to you can be used to His glory!
