I went to New York City with my family this past weekend for a family celebration. The lights of Time Square, the Empire State Building, Broadway, so many amazing sights and sounds.
Someone asked me what my favorite thing in New York City was to do. I had two, the first was the 9/11 memorial. I feel a little funny saying that since I can't say I had a good time there. The mood, as you would expect, was reverent and somber. As you looked into the huge square holes where once stood the tallest buildings in the city, you saw two waterfalls gently flowing down. the first waterfall running down the sides of the shape where the foundation once stood, the second smaller square with water running down the side into a hole that you couldn't see the bottom of, representing a never ending waterfall and a void that can't be filled. Around the memorial walls of each of the squares where the building once stood are the names of those who perished in each building.
This experience was so powerful for me, and clearly so many others, in a way that is hard to put into words. You couldn't help but feel the incredible loss of so many families and it made me feel so thankful for the presence of mine that day. As you saw the new buildings of the trade towers rising up around you, I sensed the indomitable Human Spirit that comes from God rising up against evil and rebuild what was destroyed into something even better. For me, the 9/11 memorial and the surrounding towers were a picture of redemption and healing, for the families who lost so much and for our nation. Whenever I see a story of redemption it always reminds me of the incredible price Christ was willing to pay to redeem each of us. The second thing that impacted me in NYC was another story of redemption, but I will save that one for Sunday's message.

Kids Learn to Trust God this Week at VBS - The volunteers at SKY VBS this past week taught the children to trust God and that all things are possible with God! It was an amazing week with about 650 children, 250+ teen helpers, and 120+ adults. Each day the children learned that no matter who you are, how you feel, what people do, what happens, or where you are - trust God! Thank you to each and every one who stepped up to serve this week. We trusted in God for each of you! The teen helpers and adults modeled Jesus each day and changed the lives of many children. We in Children's Ministry want to say thank you!
