July 1, 2012

On the sides of our beloved Liberty Bell, which hangs in Independence Hall in Philadelphia, are these words, cast on the metal itself: "Proclaim liberty throughout the land and to the inhabitants thereof . . ."

These words come from the Bible (something the A.C.L.U. cannot change!), from the Old Testament, Book of Leviticus, twenty-fifth chapter, tenth verse.

No better words could be inscribed on this bell, nor could they have come from a better source. For the liberty we cherish in America . . . comes not from man but from God.

We all know the story of how the Liberty Bell rang out the glad news of a new nation in birth on July 4, 1776, when the brave delegates from the various states signed the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. On that great day, the old bell ringer had posted a boy below to run upstairs with the news when it came. "Ring, ring, ring!" the boy shouted as he ran up as far as his legs could carry him. "Free, free, free!" cried the old man as he swung the clapper against the bell a hundred times to celebrate.

It is our day . . . it is our duty not only to make freedom available to every citizen in America, but also to help make it possible for all people everywhere. For all people are God's children and are entitled to the same rights.

God bless America, God bless our veterans and may we always be free from the tyranny of Godlessness.

Join us this Sunday for the Celebration!

Responsibilities are greeting children into the worship space, leading children in worship and assisting the worship teams with drama and skits. This training is required for all teens (6th-12th grade) interested in returning or joining our worship teams for Kids Quest and the P.O.D.  Please contact sherri.juliani@mtbethel.org with any questions.

Moms, dads & college students, if you have the week of July 15-20 open, we really could use your help as a counselor for Camp Hope. And adults, if you have small children, bring them with you. Our kidzkamp is great and your children will have as much fun as you - make it a "family Mission!" College students - most businesses allow you to take this week because it is considered mission service, so ask. Y'all please pray about this & then call Rev. Diane Parrish at 770-971-6646.
