Mt. Bethel UMC

March 4, 2012

Friends,

Last Sunday, our church family watched the movie "Courageous," which helped us gain a clear picture of the need to strengthen families and shift our ministry.  As a church, we are excited to equip, encourage and enable this to happen.  This family unit expands from our homes, to our workplaces, and to those places where individuals are craving for mentors.

Though our staff knew that this past Sunday was totally directed by the Holy Spirit, it was one of those Sundays I was scared and excited at the same time.  Following the direction from the Holy Spirit is not always the easiest or most comfortable thing to do.  Let me say how thankful I am to be working for Randy and a church that is faithful to the Holy Spirit's leading.

There was much excitement in the air Sunday!  The Sanctuary was packed with men, women and families committed to make strong families a priority within the home.  In the CAC, the altar and aisles were full with families and individuals hovering together in prayer and commitment.  The children's area was full with over 500 little ones and tons of volunteers taking this next step.  After the worship services, hundreds of people purchased the book "Called:?!" and signed up for small groups.  At our sister church, St. Philip UMC, Pastor Jon Ponders had youth filling the altar, hungry to receive a mentor - a person to help fill the empty spot of a father or mother figure. To conclude the incredible worship experience, the Mt. Bethel family joined together over a wonderful meal to celebrate a wonderful day. What an amazing time together as a church family!

Now, Mt. Bethel, there is a call to action - to get on board and participate with the work of the Holy Spirit.  It is going to require a leap of faith, in order, for the Shift to change ourselves, our families, our church, and our communities.

We intentionally join together as a church family by:

-- working through the series and book "Called:?!" - this helps us focus our identities in Christ, which in turn helps us understand our primary and secondary callings.

-- Join a Small Group (Life Group) - small groups help us live out this faithful adventure through accountability and encouragement.  In these small group settings, we will sign the resolutions to become the men and women God has called us to be.

Will you make plans to join us as we Shift?

Rev. Kelly Brumbeloe, Associate Pastor

Preparing for Middle School! There will be small peer groups forming this spring for girls and boys (separate groups) who are entering middle school in the fall. The groups will be facilitated by a counselor and will cover various topics related to preparing for middle school. The groups are also a great way for soon-to-be middle schoolers to develop a support network with other rising middle schoolers. The groups will meet for four 1-hour sessions and some of the subjects to be covered will be peer pressure, study skills, body image, self-esteem and bullying. For further information on dates, times and cost, please contact Michelle Lambert, MS, LPC at 770-612-1018 or mtclambert@yahoo.com.
