Randy
Shifting

Have you heard about the "Shifting," that's going to begin on February 26 in Mt. Bethel's approach to ministry? Last Sunday, I shared the news of a new approach our church staff has embraced for Mt. Bethel's ministries. The sad fact is that in spite of the universal Church's best efforts, we are losing the next generation. Take a room full of second grade children in a Sunday School class at church today, and then erase seven out of ten names by the time those children are out of high school. That's the number of children that studies show won't be followers of Christ, or regular church attendees.

The answer to reaching the next generation for Christ isn't better programs. During the two or three hours a week that the average family is at church, the church
does a lot of great things. But, in order to be more effective, the church must make a shift in equipping parents to become the primary spiritual trainers in their own homes. Sadly, too many parents feel ill-equipped to teach and train their children spiritually.

We have "outsourced" the spiritual training of our children and the result is a lost generation. The Scriptures are very plain as to the family's responsibility:

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your strength and with all your soul. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates." Deuteronomy 6:4-9.

The church is here to provide support and guidance, but not to replace parental spiritual teaching.

Join us for a special worship service February 26. The service begins at 9:30 and will continue to 12:00noon in the Sanctuary and Gym. Children below the sixth grade will report to their regular nurseries, God's Garden and POD/Kid's Quest rooms. Students from the sixth grade up and all adults will go the Sanctuary or Gym at 9:30. After the service, a free lunch will be served in the Fellowship Hall.

Let's experience this "Shift" together!

God Bless,
Randy

Bethel's Community Center (4608 Lower Roswell Road near the corner of Woodlawn Drive)  Resume reviews begin at 6:30 and the presentation starts at 7:30pm. The evening's topic is Social Media. Not for the kids anymore!  Facebook and Twitter are just two of a host of new social networking tools that enable you to connect and share your job search with your network and the world beyond.  Learn how to make use of these tools to communicate with other professionals, target companies, and recruiters.  Understand how to protect your privacy and use common online etiquette to be a better community citizen.  If you're new to Twitter, this session will give you a quick introduction and provide some reasons why you may want to consider using Twitter for your job hunt.  We also cover best practices, vocabulary, joining a community and getting your message out.  More and more recruiters are posting jobs on Twitter.  Learn how to find them at the same time as using Twitter to develop your employment brand, professional credibility, and your own following.  For more information visit the Mt. Bethel UMC website mtbethel.org/careerministry or contact Kibbie Jones at 678-560-7230 /kibbie.jones@mtbethel.org.
