"Enthusiastic and Joyful"

Abraham once said that most people are about as happy as they are determined to be. The Apostle Paul, in Philippians 4:4-7, tells us that we are to choose to be happy or "joyful." Perhaps he understood that emotion sometimes follows motion.

How can we "rejoice always?" Some folks might sing out loud. I know a lady who walks down the street singing! Perhaps we can sing silently. Making melody in our hearts, Paul calls it. Perhaps we can listen to favorite music. In other words, Paul is saying to do whatever tends to get your spirits up.

The words that echo the most throughout the New Testament are, "Have no anxiety," "Do not be afraid," "Have no fear," and "Let not your heart be troubled." God understands that fear, anxiety, worry, or "stress" as we are more likely to say these days, are a central problem for most all of us. Otherwise, we would not read so much about it in His Word.

What are we to do with the fears that haunt and nag us each day? We can tell them to God, as if He did not already know. A control problem with fear, anxiety, or stress may be that we are unwilling to look at it. We divert our attention elsewhere. We are not in touch with them. Rather, we are preoccupied with the immediate and practical items on our agenda.

In this new year, would it help us all to begin each new day sharing our thoughts, our fears, worries, and anxieties with God? Telling them to God will help clarify what's causing the anxiety. Also, as we "surrender" them to God, we unburden ourselves.

Paul does not say that God will "fix" all things for us. Instead, Paul says that God is near. God is truly present each day. When we bring our needs and anxieties, requests and fears to God, He gives us peace of mind and heart.

Trusting is not passivity, it's a new level of activity. Trusting God empowers us with a new enthusiasm and a new joyfulness. Regular worship enables us to better trust!

I look forward to seeing you at the enthusiastic, joyful and trust-building place each week!

Bethel's Community Center (4608 Lower Roswell Road near the corner of Woodlawn Drive).  Resume reviews begin at 6:30 and the Presentation starts at 7:30pm. The evening's topic is Leveraging Technology.  Don't just hit apply, use technology as a networking tool to meet hiring managers.  By now you know that the Internet has changed job search strategy completely.  Use this to your advantage by ensuring that you can be found online easily by recruiters and hiring managers and that your brand is clear.  This session provides an inside look into how Recruiters search for job seekers and how you can leverage job boards, search engines, and social networking to expand access and boost your odds of success in your job hunting expedition.  We'll also cover what your information looks like to recruiters when they're trying to fill an open position.  Last, after attending this session, you will know how to go beyond just the company website by researching your target companies and open positions via Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn.  For more information visit www.mtbethel.org/careerministry or contact Kibbie Jones at 678-560-7230 / kibbie.jones@mtbethel.org.
