November 20, 2011

I'm Thankful . . .

. . . for 4385 Lower Roswell Road.
. . . for our 391 new members and 9,016 "old timers."
. . . for deck times around the fire with good friends.
. . . for cruises with good friends.
. . . for crisp weather, hot coffee and beautiful leaves.
. . . for time spent with those I love frying the turkey.
. . . for children in the Sanctuary.
. . . for a choir that never fails.
. . . for a praise team that lifts us all.

. . . for Drew, Cooper, Mason and Reese - more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
. . . for the Bulldawg red Jeep.
. . . for humbled Gators, Tigers, and Volunteers.
. . . for crowded worship services . . . may they be plentiful.
. . . For the sight of Mt. Bethel Christians approaching the altar to pray, volunteer            and  "adopt."
. . . for Tuesday morning breakfasts, Tuesday lunches, and Wednesday Family             Night dinners . . . always delicious.
. . . for friendly, helpful ushers with warm handshakes and smiles.
. . . for Rob and Susie and having them back home.
. . . for Ashley and Lee and having them near.
. . . for parents who "see-to-it" that their teens are in church weekly.
. . . for volunteers that run our "M25 + Least and Lost" Ministries.
. . . for non-members who ask, "Can I go with y'all to the bridges?"
. . . for music that inspires and makes me say, "Thank you, God."
. . . for a staff that understands the ministry to be a calling and not just a career.
. . . for Debi and Dan, Dianne, Diane and Debbie.
. . . for the way our Academy loves and teaches.
. . . for new members asking for the bucket.
. . . for the love of my life, her beautiful green eyes, warm hugs, and cold feet.
. . . for you, Mt. Bethel, a true blessing that makes all of our hearts feel                         "strangely warmed."

God Bless you and Happy Thanksgiving,

                        Randy

Kenya Orphanage Update - Sunday was a day of huge miracles and evidence of the power of the God we serve. In response to Randy's passionate altar call and in obedience to the call on every Christian to love, care for and defend the fatherless, over 400 responded!  Not only were all the needs of the orphans in Molo and Maralal met, including many special medical needs, but over 60 commitments were made for additional orphans to be matched with the sponsors, as soon as they can be added to the program. We had only expected and planned for less than 150 children to be sponsored Sunday morning but God exposed our plans to be too small for what He intended. No one can imagine the joy unbounded by the children and our caregiving "angel" partners when they heard the news. What you didn't know, but Randy did, is that all of the children and the leaders had been praying specifically for him daily for over a week and they were trusting God for a miracle!  There are also embedded in the broader miracle, so many miracles in the lives of the children including Yvonne  who was born deaf, who is a total orphan, has never been to school but who now in January will be attending a school for the deaf and begin the life that God intended for her! There are also over 20 children who have attended a Muslim school because there were no other options who will, beginning 2012, be attending a Christian school. Our prayers have always been that in response to the fruit of the ministry God alone would always and forever receive all glory and praise! We thank you and are so grateful to you, the church from which Project 82 was birthed, Mt. Bethel. We thank Randy for his huge heart and obedience in defending the fatherless and we are joining the precious orphans and so many more in praising God and looking forward to discerning and following His future plans for the ministry. God is so very good and Mt. Bethel continues to be a home of miracles!  - Ferrell Coppedge

Hello Mt. Bethel - Several members have asked recently where they can serve food on Thanksgiving with M25 (Homeless Ministries) here at Mt. Bethel. We are not sponsoring any specific opportunities this year; however our partners at MUST, The SafeHouse, and 7Bridges/The Garden do have a few activities where you may wish to get involved.

-- MUST is looking for volunteers to help cook on the Wednesday evening prior to Thanksgiving (volunteer by contacting: Brandy Moon @ bmoon@mustministries.org), as well as for volunteers to help with their Gobble-Jog fun run activities on Thanksgiving Day (volunteer by contacting:  www.gobblejog.org).

-- The SafeHouse is closed on Thanksgiving Day, but will host their Thanksgiving Chili Outreach on Saturday, November 26. To volunteer to serve or participate, contact: Joe McCutchen @ 404-523-2221 or joe@safehousehoutreach.org .

-- 7Bridges/The Garden will celebrate Thanksgiving by going "under the bridges" at 10:00am (meet at the Kmart on Cleveland Avenue -- see 7 Bridges web-site for directions: www.7bridgestorecovery.org/the_garden), and with a picnic in the parking lot at The Garden on Plant Atkinson Road. Those wishing to celebrate with them for dinner, plan to arrive at The Garden by 2:00pm Thanksgiving Day. The folks at The Garden ask that you bring enough food for yourselves, along with a little extra to share. You can ask further questions from Melissa Ehrhardt @ 678-910-6584 or melissaehrhardt@gmail.com . Please let her know if you plan to join them for either activity.

Mt. Bethel's Career Ministry will meet Tuesday, November 22, at Mt. Bethel's Community Center (4608 Lower Roswell Road near the corner of Woodlawn Drive).  Resume reviews begin at 6:30 and the presentation starts at 7:30pm. The evening's topic is Social Media - Not for the kids anymore! Facebook and Twitter are just two of a host of new social networking tools that enable you to connect and share your job search with your network and the world beyond.  Learn how to make use of these tools to communicate with other professionals, target companies, and recruiters.  Understand how to protect your privacy and use common online etiquette to be a better community citizen. If you're new to Twitter, this session will give you a quick introduction and provide some reasons why you may want to consider using Twitter for your job hunt. We also cover best practices, vocabulary, joining a community and getting your message out.  More and more recruiters are posting jobs on Twitter.  Learn how to find them at the same time as using Twitter to develop your employment brand, professional credibility, and your own following.  For more information visit the Mt. Bethel UMC website (www.mtbethel.org/careerministry) or contact Kibbie Jones at 678-560-7230 /kibbie.jones@mtbethel.org.
