9,000 Plus Members . . . So What?!

Last Sunday, Mt. Bethel received 93 new members! The Fall Confirmation Class consisted of 89 outstanding students! That's remarkable. It is also remarkable that these 93 new members pushed Mt. Bethel over 9,000 in church membership, causing Mt. Bethel to be one of the largest United Methodist Churches in the world. Wow!

What difference does it make to have your name on the membership roll of a church? None! Oh, it looks great on paper, but God is not interested in what's on paper. If the "Cause of Christ" is not strengthened by your church membership, your membership has no value. In other words, as members of the Body-of-Christ (the Church), we are held accountable for the expectations of Jesus Christ. We are to reach out for the Least and Lost with His love and acceptance. We are to "tend His lambs." We are to faithfully serve and allow our service to be a strong witness in His name.

As far as our Fall Confirmation Class is concerned, it means the role of the parents is as important as ever. Parents, consider your church membership. Surveys have evidenced that where both parents are active in the life of a church, 93% of their children remain faithful. Where only one parent was active, 74% of their children remain faithful after joining. Where the parents were only moderately active, 53% of their young remained faithful. Where parents participated in the life of the church infrequently, only 6% of their children remained faithful after joining.

Here's the deal, names on a membership roll of a church have no value to God unless there is a record of active, faithful service attached to that name.

Mt. Bethel has 9,000 plus members on record. How many are active? How active are you and your family?

God bless you, and I hope to see you Sunday, 9,000 plus strong.

Your Worship Committee is calling for HELP!!!!
The Hanging of the Greens service will be at 10:00am on November 27. We need lots of helping hands (men AND women) in getting out all the Christmas decorations and readying them for hanging.  We will meet at 1:00pm on Sunday, November 20, in the Narthex area. This is a time of fun, fellowship and service in getting our Sanctuary and other parts of the campus ready for the Advent/Christmas Season. Please join in....many hands make light work! Please call Barbara Lester (770-977-7280) or email gigee1@comcast.net or just show up!  Also, if your family would like to participate in the Hanging of the Greens service or in lighting the Advent candles in the Sanctuary during Advent, please let Barbara know ASAP.

IPraise and weePraise will present the musical, "Legacy of Love," a story that celebrates the special people in our lives and encourages children to see the value in leaving their own legacy of love and generosity to others. Please join us as our children's choirs and our children's chime and bells groups join together to sing and play songs of praise and thanksgiving--a fitting way to prepare our hearts for the upcoming holiday season! Wednesday, November 16, at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary.

A big thank you to all who participated in the 20th Annual Ribbons & Holly Craft show this past weekend. Whether you were a vendor, shopper or helper, we were glad you were there! Thank you especially to our iPraise choirs, Bell Choir, Kingsmen, Chuck Newman and Ira Pittman who performed at our event and started off our Christmas season with wonderful Christmas music. If you missed this event or have never attended, hopefully you will be able to attend next year!  This event raises money for missions in our area/church like M.U.S.T., Camp Hope, Hands of Hope in W.VA and many others. This year we raised over $4000 after expenses, $641 of that goes to the Mt. Bethel Foster Care from contributions to the handmade quilt made by Marg Keifer of our church who gives her time making the quilt each year for this event. A member of our church, Judy Anderton, was the lucky person whose name was drawn to receive the quilt. Again, thank you to all who participated and we look forward to seeing you next year!  Have a Blessed Christmas, The Friends In Faith Evening Circle

"Christmas Challenge" - The team going to West Virginia on December 8 wants to pull the donation trailer filled with your unneeded household items - things like linens, dishes, glasses, utensils, small working appliances, etc. as well as decorative knick knacks--figurines, picture frames, seasonal decorations--all will be distributed to the poor living in southern Appalachia. Clothing is always appreciated, but this time of year we want to collect as many household items as we can. As always--"thank you" Mt. Bethel for your generous support of the West Virginia ministry.

Have You Taken Control of Your Health Today? Life Line Screening will be at Mt. Bethel on Monday, November 21, offering five safe, painless, non-invasive preventive health screenings that are typically not a part of a routine physical. These include:

These screenings are recommended for anyone 50 and older, or 40 and older with cardiovascular risk factors.  The results, which are mailed to you, will help you & your doctor protect your health.  Prices range from $129 to $159.  Call 1-888-653-6441 or visit www.lifelinescreening.com/community-partners to schedule your appointment.

We will have 4 rotations(6:00, 6:20, 6:40 and 7:00) with at least 3 families in each rotation beginning at 6PM.  Children's Ministry will provide the costumes and direct the characters into the stable while the story is read and songs are sung.  Please call Dianne Hylton to sign up at 770-971-5074 or email dianne.hylton@mtbethel.org

Christmas Ministry Opportunities:

Operation Christmas Child - Last year 8.1 million children experienced hope through the power of a simple gift - your gift of a shoe box. You can make a difference this year by filling a box, wrapping it in prayer, and bringing it to the altar for dedication on Sunday, November 20. Flyers with packing information can be found throughout the church. You can even print your own packing label through the  Samaritan's Purse website, www.samaritanspurse.org. These shoe boxes open doors for presenting the Good News of Jesus Christ through the distribution of Gospel booklets and follow-up discipleship programs. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan's Purse, the Christian relief and evangelism ministry led by Franklin Graham.

Angel Tree runs through December 4. The "Angels" represent gift requests of  children in foster care and adults who are being assisted by the Department of Family and Children Services.  Trees are located in the connector hallway, the F Building  lobby and the nursery hallway on Sunday mornings or in the connector on Wednesday afternoons. Please pick up your Angels and spread the spirit of Christmas to the least and the lost.
