FEMA to Test Nationwide Emergency Alert System - Officials Concerned Public May Not Realize this is a Test - On November 9, the Federal Emergency Management Administration, Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Communications Commission will conduct the first national test of the Nationwide Emergency Alert System (EAS). The test will kick off at 2pm (EST) and will be nationwide, running concurrently across all time zones. This system test is the first of its kind. It is designed to broadcast a nationwide message to the American public. Nothing like it has been conducted in the history of the country. There have been tests in the past but none to all parts of the Nation at the same time. The test will run concurrently on all radio and TV bands for three (3) minutes. Most messages in the past ran anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute. There is great concern in local police and emergency management circles about undue public anxiety over this test. The test message on TV might not indicate that it is just a test. Fear is that the lack of an explanation message might create panic. Please share this information with your family and friends, so they are aware of the test. For more information on the test please visit: http://www.fema.gov/emergency/ipaws/eas_info.shtm

Ready to join Mt. Bethel?  Do you have a few questions you would like answered before taking this important step?  Our next New Member Class series is  Sunday, December 4 & Sunday, December 11 at 11:00 a.m. in Room B116.  We have designed these classes to help you figure out how to "navigate" Mt. Bethel & how to get you plugged into the life of the church.  For more information or to reserve your spot, contact Krista Downing at 678-560-7226 or krista.downing@mtbethel.org.

Want to get involved and put your Compassion into Action? Check out the new Mt. Bethel Volunteer Opportunities - www.mtbethel.org/volunteer. You will find specific needs listed for many of our local ministries including serving, specific donations, one -time opportunities and regular commitments.  It is amazing how many lives Mt. Bethel touches through our local ministries. Come be a part of it. It will change your life!

Vases With Verses - Please donate clear, smooth, glass florist vases to The Tom Day Open Door Class Project. Volunteers are needed to decorate vases at the home of Kathy Hoppe on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Proceeds from the sale of these vases will be used to build showers and provide supplies for art therapy activities at The Garden Woman's Shelter. Donation bins for vases will be located near the Sanctuary.

The Career Ministry of Mt. Bethel UMC will meet on Tuesday, November 8, at the Mt. Bethel Community Center (4608 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA  30068).  Resume reviews begin at 6:30pm with the presentation at 7:30pm. The topic for the evening will be LinkedIn. The number one professional social network is LinkedIn.  Your LinkedIn profile is your virtual calling card and online resume; it does more than another single tool to broadcast your employment brand.  Use LinkedIn to connect with other professionals, update your status, join groups, and meet people at your target companies. Learn how to build a searchable profile, request recommendations, use the "introductions" feature, and many of LinkedIn's other features to facilitate your job hunt.  Learn job seeker best practices, from frequency and type of status updates to developing a recommendation strategy.  Enhance your credibility and improve your chance of being found just by improving your use of this single tool.  For more information visit http://mtbethel.org/careerministry or contact Kibbie Jones at kibbie.jones@mtbethel.org or 678-560-7230.

"Christmas Challenge" - The team going to West Virginia on December 8 (the last trip of 2011), wants to pull the donation trailer filled with your unneeded household items - things like linens, dishes, glasses, utensils, small working appliances, etc. as well as decorative knick knacks--figurines, picture frames, seasonal decorations--all will be distributed to the poor living in southern Appalachia. Clothing is always appreciated, but this time of year we want to collect as many household items as we can. As always--"thank you" Mt. Bethel for your generous support of the West Virginia ministry.

Mt. Bethel's Day Care Center is hiring a full-time Assistant Teacher for the two-year-old class. For more information, please stop by the Day Care, 615 Woodlawn Drive, Marietta, GA 30068 or call 678-560-8005.

Live Nativity - Wednesday night, December 14, from 6:00-7:30pm in the Sanctuary.  Families are invited to participate as the characters; Mary, Joseph, wisemen, shepherds, angels and the Star of Bethlehem to stand in the stable as we present the Christmas story that changed the world. We will have 4 rotations(6:00, 6:20, 6:40 and 7:00) with at least 3 families in each rotation beginning at 6PM.  Children's Ministry will provide the costumes and direct the characters into the stable while the story is read and songs are sung.  Please call Dianne Hylton to sign up at 770-971-5074 or email dianne.hylton@mtbethel.org

Christmas Ministry Opportunities:

Operation Christmas Child - Last year 8.1 million children experienced hope through the power of a simple gift - your gift of a shoe box. You can make a difference this year by filling a box, wrapping it in prayer, and bringing it to the altar for dedication on Sunday, November 20. Flyers with packing information can be found throughout the church. You can even print your own packing label through the  Samaritan's Purse website, www.samaritanspurse.org. These shoe boxes open doors for presenting the Good News of Jesus Christ through the distribution of Gospel booklets and follow-up discipleship programs. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan's Purse, the Christian relief and evangelism ministry led by Franklin Graham.

Angel Tree begins November 6 and runs through December 4. The "Angels" represent gift requests of  children in foster care and adults who are being assisted by the Department of Family and Children Services.  Trees will be located in the connector hallway, the F Building  lobby and the nursery hallway starting Sunday November 6.  Please pick up your Angels and spread the spirit of Christmas to the least and the lost.
