"Desperation In the Bahamas"

Hurricane Ivan nearly washed away the eastern seaboard of the U.S. As bad as it was, it could have been much worse. In fact, it was much worse in the Bahamas. The destruction was horrific.

Our own Cary Farrington, Student Associate, is assisting the coordination of Bahamas Habitat Aviation & Disaster Relief. Currently, there is a critical need for tarps for roofs and rope, five-gallon buckets, food that needs no prep, candles & matches, flashlights & batteries, generators with extension cords, linens & towels, roofing, nails, felt, shingles and tools. Mt. Bethel (through Cary's connections) has been designated as a supply drop. All donations are being coordinated through our Missions Ministry, Rev. Carey Akin and Heather Wood. "Fly Missions," pilots with planes will deliver all donations to the Bahamas. Bring all donations to the lobby of the CAC (Gym). Please be generous.

Habitat Road Race

Mark your calendar for October 1, Saturday, and join us for our Habitat Road Race and Walk. All ages are invited and needed. This race/walk benefits the construction of Mt. Bethel's 30th & 31st Habitat Houses. Cobb County leads the state in building Habitat houses; Mt. Bethel leads Cobb County!

Opening Our Doors

Currently, we are feeding the homeless at SafeHouse each third Thursday. On September 22, we are bringing the homeless to Mt. Bethel to be examined by doctors for their foot and eye needs. If you have experience or are a trained professional in the area of Podiatry or eye care and are willing to volunteer your services Thursday evening, September 22, then please respond by contacting Randy Hudon - 404-245-4825 or 678-560-7497 or Gaylyn Kelly - 404-932-6106 or 770-971-6813.

Mt. Bethel's passion to make a difference in the lives of the least and lost is inspirational. It is transforming the lives of the giver as well as the receiver. Please take advantage of the opportunities to make a difference for the Cause of Christ.

I'll see you at the difference-making place!

Women's Ministry Children's Clothing Sale Update:

We are excited to announce that the sale grossed $88,558.80 and beat the sales totals from last fall! Thank you for your prayers and volunteer hours. Without the blessing of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, we would not have been able to serve the least and the lost locally and around the world. Thank you!

Book Signing By Author Jon Elliott - Jon K. Elliott, will sign his new novel, "The Hands of Christ," at the Mt. Bethel Bookstore on Wednesday, September 7, between 4:30 and 7:30. The Hands of Christ is the story of Linda and Dean Burns, an affluent couple with three elementary-age children. Like most of us, they led busy lives, yet their marriage was a happy one. But when Linda was injured in an automobile accident their marriage took a new direction. Dean, who owned a construction company, recognized the need to enlarge the company's business volume to compensate for Linda's lost income. But as he occupied himself with expanding his business, Linda increasingly implored him to help to maintain the household and take care of their children. Their relationship turned bitter, and neither of them knew how to arrest their marriage's downward spiral and to prevent its eventual undoing.

Friends who could see the marriage deteriorating desperately tried to find someone who could help prevent the seemingly inevitable divorce. The book chronicles how they and a unique church worked together to devise a plan to intervene, and to become the hands of Christ reaching out to people they cared about.

Women's Ministry

Meeting at the Well - New Date: Tue, September 13| 7-8pm | Fellowship Hall - There was a time when women had no other women to talk to. There was a time when their home/tent was their entire life's existence. And, there was a time when their only venue through which they could connect with other women was at the water well before sunrise and before sunset. In our busy, crazy, indeed absolutely insane schedules - more and more, women feel isolated - even though they are busy with other people! Join the women of Mt. Bethel as we find new ways to meet other women and celebrate our relationships! Indeed, we will "meet at the well" to enjoy an hour of dessert and coffee as our own Diane Parrish shares her perspective on why women need to connect. Admission and dessert are free, but please pick up a ticket in the Mt. Bethel Bookstore so we can prepare for all who wish to attend.  Nursery is available by contacting Debbie Ruth at 770-971-2588.

"A Wake Up Call for God's People" - Sunday, September 11 | 7pm | Sanctuary

Please join us in our Sanctuary, as a Mt. Bethel community, to watch this simulcast as it is broadcast around the world. This evening of teaching messages by Anne Graham Lotz and Joel Rosenberg, knit together with authentic worship music led by Selah, will be used by God to wake up His people. Join us as we consider the times in which we live, refocus on Jesus as our Hope for the future, and ask God to reignite such an intense longing for His return that we live the rest of our lives with no regrets. The event is free, but we ask that you register online to ensure materials are provided for everyone. Nursery is available for this event, but registration is required.  Please contact Debbie Ruth - 770-971-2588.

Support Groups

A new Grief Support Group will begin meeting weekly on Tuesdays nights  beginning September 13, at 7:00 in room B106. This group is for anyone who has lost someone they love and wants to work through their grief in an informal setting.  A person need not be a member of Mt. Bethel to join this group, so feel free to share this information with anyone who has experienced a death in their family or friends.  Please call Wil Parker at 678-560-2801 for more information.

The Divorce Support/Recovery Group continues to meet each Wednesday evening at 6:30 in the "H" House. This group is for those going through one of the most heart-wrenching tragedies that a person can face. Divorce is not the end of one's world, but it can sure seem like it. When people go through such hardships, they need a support/recovery group where they can find acceptance, feel comfortable with, learn from, and have the opportunity to express their emotions with a group that understands.  Trained facilitators help those overwhelmed by the legalities of the divorce process, grieving the hurt of rejection and loss, and confused as to their place in life as a divorcee.  Together we help each other gain confidence and restore self esteem. One need not be a member of Mt Bethel to be a part of this group.  For more information, please call Mike Gilliam at 404-372-7668, Kathy Feldbaum at 770-715-9423 or Wil Parker at 678-560-2801.
