Christian to the Core - "Passion for the Harvest"

Randy
How can one not be passionate when it concerns the Christian Faith? The same faith for which millions have been martyred. The same faith that provides hope, strength, guidance and reassurance. What was it God said regarding a cold, insipid passionless faith . . . "Because you are neither hot nor cold, but sickenly lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth!" (Rev. 3:15-16)
I don't know about you, but words such as those remind me of the passion generated by football coaches. What do you suppose the effect would be on churches that have grown stale, cold, indifferent to their calling, if God employed some football coaches to whip up some passion for doing the Lord's work? Consider the passion of some of these coaches:
    1.    John Heisman, "Gentlemen, it is better to have died a small boy than to fumble a football."
    2.    Knute Rockne, "Show me a good and gracious loser and I'll show you a failure."
    3.    Knute Rockne, "It isn't necessary to see a good tackle, you can hear it."
    4.    Lou Holtz, "The man who complains about the way the ball bounces is likely to be the one who dropped it."
    5.    Lou Holtz, "Motivation is simple. You eliminate those who are not motivated."
    6.    Woody Hayes, "There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the (heck) kicked out of it."
    7.    Paul Dietzel, "You can learn more character on the two-yard line than anywhere else in life."
    8.    Frank Leahy, "Lads, you will not miss practice unless your parents died or you died."
    9.    Bowden Wyatt, "My advice to defensive players: Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in a bad humor."
    10.    Shug Jordan, "Always remember . . . Goliath was a 40 point favorite over David."
    11.    Bobby Bowden, "Son, you've got a good engine, but your hands aren't on the steering wheel."
    12.    Duffy Daugherty, "Football is not a contact sport - it is a collision sport. Dancing is a contact sport."
    13.    John McKay, "We didn't tackle well today but we made up for it by not blocking."
Football is just a game. The shame is that it often generates more enthusiastic passion than our life-changing, life-giving faith. Look at it like this, would God (if He were just a coach) have you on His team because of your passion? Would you be a starter? Would you be a star? If not . . . why not?!

Passion is a requirement to be on His Team!

Randy

Meeting at the Well - New Date: Tue, September 13| 7-8pm | Fellowship Hall - There was a time when women had no other women to talk to. There was a time when their home/tent was their entire life's existence. And, there was a time when their only venue through which they could connect with other women was at the water well before sunrise and before sunset. In our busy, crazy, indeed absolutely insane schedules - more and more, women feel isolated - even though they are busy with other people! Join the women of Mt. Bethel as we find new ways to meet other women and celebrate our relationships! Indeed, we will "meet at the well" to enjoy an hour of dessert and coffee as our own Diane Parrish shares her perspective on why women need to connect. Admission and dessert are free, but please pick up a ticket in the Mt. Bethel Bookstore so we can prepare for all who wish to attend.  Nursery is available by contacting Debbie Ruth at 770-971-2588.

This evening of teaching messages by Anne Graham Lotz and Joel Rosenberg, knit together with authentic worship music led by Selah, will be used by God to wake up His people. Join us as we consider the times in which we live, refocus on Jesus as our Hope for the future, and ask God to reignite such an intense longing for His return that we live the rest of our lives with no regrets. The event is free, but we ask that you register online to ensure materials are provided for everyone. Nursery is available for this event, but registration is required.  Please contact Debbie Ruth - 770-971-2588.

This group is for anyone who has lost someone they love and wants to work through their grief in an informal setting.  A person need not be a member of Mt. Bethel to join this group, so feel free to share this information with anyone who has experienced a death in their family or friends.  Please call Wil Parker at 678-560-2801 for more information.

The Divorce Support/Recovery Group continues to meet each Wednesday evening at 6:30 in the "H" House. This group is for those going through one of the most heart-wrenching tragedies that a person can face. Divorce is not the end of one's world, but it can sure seem like it. When people go through such hardships, they need a support/recovery group where they can find acceptance, feel comfortable with, learn from, and have the opportunity to express their emotions with a group that understands.  Trained facilitators help those overwhelmed by the legalities of the divorce process, grieving the hurt of rejection and loss, and confused as to their place in life as a divorcee.  Together we help each other gain confidence and restore self esteem. One need not be a member of Mt Bethel to be a part of this group.  For more information, please call Mike Gilliam at 404-372-7668, Kathy Feldbaum at 770-715-9423 or Wil Parker at 678-560-2801.
