"Now Let's Get Personal"

Randy

Last week, I had an opportunity to watch the movie, "Carolina." Shirley McClaine plays a feisty, loving, "earthy" grandmother. She was usually the hostess for the dysfunctional family's Thanksgiving dinner. She would always have the Thanksgiving blessing. She would start her prayer, thanking God for each one's accomplishments and she would conclude the prayer with the words, "Now let's get personal" and she would list everyone's faults and failings, asking God to help them do better.

Recently, I've considered praying for Mt. Bethel in her fashion. "Lord, fill my familes' bellies with good food and their hearts with love." I would thank God for all that we as a church have accomplished together with His help . . . and that's quite a lot! Now, I say, "Lord, let's get personal . . . "

We have some serious issues. Our stewardship is sorely lacking and lagging. We are currently $800,000 behind where we were this time last year with pledges received. We are nearly $3,000,000 behind in what's needed for our new fiscal year's budget which begins July 1. Of our pledges received, 24% have not increased, 22% have increased, 11% have decreased, and 28% of last year's pledgers have made no response this year. We do reflect 13% increase in new pledges.

    "Lord, let's get personal . . . "

If the church does not hear from many pledgers by June 30, we will have to drastically reduce next year's ministries and budget.

    "Lord, let's get personal . . . "

Mt. Bethel, is this what you desire? We will make up the difference by cutting staff and reducing ministry and missions. Please, let us hear from you today!
