Mt. Bethel UMC - Compassion Into Action
Message From The Minister

Dear Reese,

Welcome! We are so happy to have you with us and in our family. You were so considerate, waiting until everything was in place before you joined us. Your mom and dad decided you needed a larger house and so they bought one. Next, they decided it needed to be renovated and so they renovated it. All of this was being accomplished while you were in your last month prior to arrival. You waited ever so patiently . . . until 12:30am on February 3, then you began your arrival! What an event! The phone call awoke DeeDee and Grandy and we took off to get your big brother, who wouldn't travel without his dog. It was truly an exciting time.
You are an excitement! When you arrived, the expressions of sheer joy, pride, thanksgiving and love were written on all of our faces. Excitement is a wonderful part of life and my prayer is that yours will be an exciting life. I should probably warn you, as we welcome you to this world, that living here is not always exciting or easy. We have way too many crises, and for the most part, all are preventable. No doubt, before your time here is over, you will experience some of the difficulties of life. Yet, we do have our "Ally" - our Lord and Savior, who tells us "to be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world."
You are a big part of our "good cheer." God has planned you from the very beginning. He knew that you were just the right one for your mom, dad and big brother. Your big brother already has some great plans for the two of you. He has decided that the two of you will be the new "dynamic duo," just like Batman and Robin. (Of course, he thinks he's Batman!)
Our God has also provided you with a much larger family, His family, the Church. And it will always help you and your mom, dad and Cooper to be strengthened, encouraged and hope-filled as you grow up. Family - it's one of God's greatest blessings. I can't wait to help you grow up in both families!
Reese McConnell Purcell, you are a child of God, His miracle. I can't wait (DeeDee, too) to help you explore all of the excitement to be lived in this miraculous place.
God bless you, Reese - you, DeeDee and I are going to have so much fun together.
                        Love,
                        Grandy

P.S. Give your mom and dad a hug for me, and thank them for doing a great job!

Mt. Bethel's Career Ministry will meet Tuesday, February 22, at Mt. Bethel's Community Center (4608 Lower Roswell Road near the corner of Woodlawn Drive). Resume reviews begin at 6:30 and the presentation starts at 7:30pm. The evening's topic is "Pay and Your Job Search - What Should I Say?"  Most job seekers find dealing with pay issues to be one of the most challenging components of their job search. How do you address the dreaded questions, "What is your current pay" and "What pay do you expect"? Compensation is perceived by most employees and job seekers as a "black box" because compensation management principles, systems, and rates of pay are not openly communicated to either employees or job seekers. This session will focus on preparing you to answer the two dreaded questions as well as open up the "black box" to provide you with the inside information that you need to be prepared to manage all aspects of the pay component of your job search.  For more information visit the Mt. Bethel UMC website or contact Kibbie Jones at 678-560-7230 kibbie.jones@mtbethel.org.

Women's Ministry

Overcoming - Fulfill Your God Given Destiny|Thursday, March 24|6:30-9:30pm
Christian vocalist and speaker, Lori Kennedy, believes in sharing the gifts and talents in which Christ has blessed her. As a singer and worship leader, Lori's aspiration is to encourage and lead others to the throne of Grace through her music and ministry. Lori reaches out to others through her inspirational songs and speaking engagements. We will begin this evening with a pot luck meal and fellowship. The meal will be followed by worship and a dramatic presentation. Next, Lori will give her testimony and present on how to overcome your obstacles and wounds in order to begin to fulfill your God-given destiny. We ask all ladies attending to bring a dinner dish to share. This is a free event, however, we ask you to register online.  A love offering will be taken at the end of the evening.  Questions can be directed to Kris Michaelides - 678-560-7427.

Pastoral Care

From time to time, all of us need someone with whom we can share our concerns and worries. Mt. Bethel has Stephen Ministers who are trained caregivers, ready to help you through any crisis or need. All conversations are confidential. For more information, please contact any of our ministers or John Semler.

The Divorce Support/Recovery Group meets each Wednesday at 6:30 in the H House. This group is for those going through one of the most heart-wrenching tragedies that a person can face. Divorce is not the end of one's world, but it can sure seem like it. When people go through such hardships, they need a support/recovery group where they can find acceptance, feel comfortable with, learn from, and have the opportunity to express their emotions with a group that understands.  Trained facilitators help those grieving the hurt of rejection and loss, and confused as to their place in life as a divorcee.  Together we help each other gain confidence and restore self esteem. One need not be a member of Mt Bethel to be a part of this group, so tell others.  For more information, please call Jeanette Imboden at 678-699-5755, or Mike Gillam at 404-372-7668.

Support Groups

Stephen Ministry Support - There are times when each of us needs someone to listen to us and pray with us about situations we are facing.  Stephen Ministers are trained, caring members of Mt Bethel. They provide distinctively Christian one-on-one care to those who are experiencing a situation that has placed them in need of someone to listen. This may include births, deaths, serious or terminal illness, family crisis, divorce, problems with children, caring for aging parents, financial problems - literally any challenging situation.  Stephen Ministers work with people of the same gender and offer Christian care and while maintaining strict confidentially. They help by listening and sharing God's love to help with the confusion, stress, hurt, or loneliness. Please call John Semler at 770-937-0321 or Kibbie Jones at 678-560-7230 for more information.
